What is Revenue Financing?
Revenue financing—also known as revenue-based financing—is a type of growth capital provided by TIMIA to a start-up in exchange for a percentage of future revenue.
The payments are tied to monthly revenue, increasing in strong revenue months and decreasing in low-revenue months, until the capital (plus a multiple) is repaid.

As a result, we’ve seen successful early exits in investee companies such as Lambda, iCompass, Rise, and QuickMobile delivering periodic gains manifesting in profitable quarters. At the same time, TIMIA is focused on investing in new and exciting opportunities to support longer term profitability.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER & DIRECTOR
Mike joined the company as the CEO in August 2015. He is experienced in revenue financing, venture debt and venture capital investing. Previous to TIMIA, he was the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Fronterra Capital, as well as Managing Partner, CFO at Chrysalix Energy. Before working on the finance side, Mike worked in the technology manufacturing sector in product and program management, strategy and planning.
Mike has a Bachelor of Commerce from University of BC, and a formal CPA designation.
CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER
Greg joined TIMIA as the CIO in September 2015. He has been on both sides of the table as an entrepreneur and investor. Previous to TIMIA, he was a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Espresso Capital, an early leader in debt and revenue financing for the tech sector, for 6 years. Prior to Espresso, Greg worked for the Business Development Bank of Canada’s (“BDC”) Technology Seed Investment Group. Before BDC, Greg founded and bootstrapped for seven years, his own start-up which he successfully exited in March 2000.
Greg has a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of BC.
CHIEF CREDIT OFFICER
Andrew has 20-plus years of experience in Canada’s venture capital and private equity industry. He is a cofounder and partner in Tech Capital Partners Inc, a Waterloo-based venture capital management company and founder of TCP Property Inc, a private real estate fund. Earlier in his career, Abouchar worked as an accountant at PwC and as an investment manager at Working Ventures. His also an advisor to the Government of Canada and Province of Ontario, and currently serves on the board of Ontario Centres of Excellence.
VICE PRESIDENT, CAPITAL MARKETS & COMMUNICATIONS
Darren joined TIMIA as the Vice President, Capital Markets & Communications (VPCMC) in January 2018. He has been on both sides of the finance table as an investor and capital markets executive. Previous to TIMIA, Darren was the VPCMC of Avigilon Corporation. Darren is also the President of Incite Capital Markets Inc., an independent capital markets advisory and investment corporation. Mr. Seed has over 20 years of capital markets experience across various exchanges and industries including Biotech, Fuel Cell, High Tech and the venture capital arena raising in excess of $750 million for previous companies.
VICE PRESIDENT, FINANCE
Prior to joining TIMIA, Stephanie spent seven years at Espresso Capital where she led due diligence and risk assessment efforts on over 100 financial transactions, managed the company’s due diligence team across Canada and developed the company’s early credit scoring approach. She is also a Founding Partner of the Women’s Equity Lab (WEL), a collaborative women investors fund and is Executive Director of the Capital Investment Network (CIN), a Victoria-based non-profit angel investors organization which she Co-Founded in 2014. Stephanie completed a MSc in Molecular Biology and Medical Genetics at the University of Toronto, an MBA at the Schulich School of Business and is a CFA charter holder.
DIRECTOR, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Rob joined TIMIA Capital in the Spring of 2017 as Director of Business Development. Previous to TIMIA, he was an Associate Director at Espresso Capital, an early provider of debt and revenue financing for the tech sector. Rob is actively involved in the startup community both advising early stage software companies and he is on the Selection Committee for both the Canadian Financing Forum and BC Tech Summit Investor Showcase.
Rob has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Finance from the University of British Columbia.
DIRECTOR OF MARKETING
Mark joined TIMIA Capital in the Fall of 2018 as Director of Marketing. Previous to TIMIA, he held senior positions at a variety of SaaS start-ups and private equity firms including Thinkific, Filestack, and Xenon Ventures. He also teaches part-time at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).
Catherine joined TIMIA Capital as a freelance copywriter and social media manager in January 2019. She has 15 years experience in marketing and held senior positions at a number of technology companies including Hootsuite, Absolute, and Avnet Technology Solutions. Catherine is an expert writer and marketer and holds an executive Masters in Marketing, a Bachelor of Science in Communications and Journalism, and a Diploma in Digital Marketing.
Sheldon joined TIMIA Capital as an intern in January of 2018. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Commerce at the UBC Sauder School of Business, specialized in Finance and Business Technology Management. Previously, he worked as a Junior Legal Administrative Assistant at Thorsteinsson & Co. and as a Customer Service Representative at TD Canada Trust.
Priyal Shah joined TIMIA Capital as a Systems Engineer Co-op Student in May 2019. Prior to TIMIA Capital, She worked as a Sales Operations Analyst at StemCell Technologies in 2018 and she has experience with data analysis, Java programming, SQL Database Management and Salesforce. She will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Combined major in Mathematics and Economics) from The University of British Columbia on 28th May 2020.
