READ: Orion Minerals powers up Prieska zinc-copper BFS work

Orion is focusing on the Prieska Zinc-Copper Project in South Africa for which a definitive feasibility study is targeted for completion by the end of this quarter.

In January Orion also upgraded its resource for the project found at an old copper mine to 30.49 million tonnes grading 3.7% zinc and 1.2% copper.

This came after an updated open pit resource was released for the beyond 105 metres level target of 1.76 million tonnes grading 2.0% zinc and 1.5% copper.

It includes a landmark deep sulphide resource upgrade unveiled in December 2018.

The company is also collaborating with juwi Renewable Energies South Africa to explore renewable energy generation at the project.

Through subsidiary Repi Trading No 27, the company will investigate the possibility of generating and supplying 35MW of electricity from a hybrid power system.

The proposed site is within 20 kilometres of Prieska, making the establishment of a dedicated feed via an overhead power transmission line possible.

In January 2019 financier Tembo Capital Mining Fund II LP extended an unsecured $3.6 million bridge loan facility to the company to back its effort to produce the Prieska BFS by the June quarter.

Proceeds from the loan facility were to be primarily used to progress the BFS for the project 270 kilometres southwest of Kimberley in South Africa’s Northern Cape.

The company has long targeted completing the study by the June quarter and was to use Tembo’s funds to repay the balance of a bridge loan which was at about $610,000 on December 31.

Orion’s existing convertible note providers have also shown their support this year, extending the maturity dates for about $6.05 million of notes funding by up to 6.5 months to September 30, 2019.

<![CDATA[News - Orion Metals finds high grade copper-gold in Queensland ]]> https://www.proactiveinvestors.com.au/companies/news/140201/orion-metals-finds-high-grade-copper-gold-in-queensland-56249.html Orion Metals (ASX:ORM) has returned high grade copper-gold results from its Broughton Creek Project in Queensland and has also extended the size of its Mt Surprise tin, tungsten and rare earth elements project.

Rock chip sampling at Broughton Creek had returned 7.7% copper and 6.55 grams per tonne gold as well as 11.1% copper and 0.77g/t gold that confirmed the strength of outcropping mineralisation at the Huggins prospect area.

It also recovered 2.5g/t gold in one stream sediment sample indicating potential for a new gold prospective area.

These highlight new areas of copper and gold anomalism.

Further field reconnaissance work is planned including prospect scale mapping and extensive rock chip sampling as well as soil sampling and expanded stream sediment sampling across EPM18075.

Orion has also been granted the 126 square kilometre EPM 18331 tenement that increases the area of its Mt Surprise tin, tungsten and rare earth elements project to over 530 square kilometres.

The area has numerous historic diggings for alluvial tin and tungsten.

Its geological environment is fertile for griesen and vein/stockwork tin tungsten deposit styles, and the visual alteration of the granites in the region suggests a fertile environment for exploration for granitic or felsic hosted tin/tungsten deposits.

The area is also considered highly prospective for rare earth elements.

Detailed technical assessment and target generation has started. Field inspection of the leases along with structured geochem sampling is expected to commence late 2014.

Drilling will cover 16 holes over 15 metres, and will take around a fortnight to complete.

Highlighting the prospectivity of the area it is located 30 kilometres to the south of the historical Mary Kathleen uranium mine.

Previously a grid based ground radiometric survey has been completed, with the region identified from an earlier airborne radiometric survey to contain significant radiometric anomalies.

This was followed up by regional rock chip sampling.

Broughton Creek is a joint venture with Broughton Minerals Limited where Orion is farming into the project, and is project manager.

Ultimate said the current period of sustained lower global commodity prices and demand for resources has been instrumental in the decision to withdraw from the Eorae San and Hongchon South projects.

It has previously agreed to acquire the projects through a series of payments, which were scheduled for completion in January 2014.

Orion continues to explore for rare earth element within the Broughton Creek Project in Northwest Queensland and Killi Killi Project in Western Australia.

Detailed geological mapping of a significant quartz breccia shear zone has been carried out at Killi Killi and a reverse circulation drilling program is being planned to test the shear zone at the predicted intersection of the shear zone with the contact between the Killi Killi Beds and the overlying Gardiner Sandstone.

The company is also planning to carry out a shallow reverse circulation drilling program at Broughton Creek to test the coincident radiometric and rock chip anomalous zones, to determine the nature and extent of the mineralisation in this region.

The tenements are located in the Tanami Desert region of WA and are situated in the north, west and south of the company's existing 100% owned Killi Killi project.

The three new tenements add about 400 square kilometres of granted exploration licences to Orion within the Tanami region and contain similar stratigraphy to that which occurs within the existing Killi Killi project.

Exploration activity within the company's two existing tenements has located zones of anomalous rare earth and gold mineralisations and the three new licences may potentially add gold and REE mineralisation to its portfolio.

Orion will start exploration work on these new licences after the 2012-13 wet season passes.

<![CDATA[News - Orion Metals identifies new rare earth targets at Killi Killi ]]> https://www.proactiveinvestors.com.au/companies/news/140197/orion-metals-identifies-new-rare-earth-targets-at-killi-killi--22069.html Orion Metals (ASX: ORM) has received preliminary results of an airborne survey of its Killi Killi Rare Earth project in the Northern Territory which has identified seven rare earth element (REE) targets.

The aeromagnetic-radiometric survey was flown in June at 200 metres line spacing.

Geophysicists Southern Geoscience Consultants were commissioned to process and interpret the data, with the primary goal to identify similar Killi Killi REE targets.

A secondary aim was to look for structurally controlled gold mineralisation analogous to the nearby Coyote mine.

Southern Geoscience was able to merge existing 50 metre line datasets overlapping parts of the area under review as well as Government 400 metre data to increase the size and resolution of the interpretation area.

Among the seven REE targets identified were the three known occurrences – Killi Killi East 1 & 2 and West – and three large zones of potassic alteration.

Structural analysis of inferred regional scale deformation to attempt to identify possible dilation zones was only moderately successful while there was little obvious structural association in the magnetic data.

Regionally a number of target areas of low priority have been identified as would be expected from a terrain with little magnetic variation in the metasedimentary basement of the area.

Orion Metals will complete geological prospecting over the new targets identified in the survey and if encouraging, incorporate these targets into the first drilling program planned for early 2012.

The company is now waiting on Southern Geoscience’s final completion report and analyses of samples collected in last month’s drilling campaign.

<![CDATA[News - Orion Metals initiates rare element evaluations near historic Mary Kathleen mine ]]> https://www.proactiveinvestors.com.au/companies/news/140196/orion-metals-initiates-rare-element-evaluations-near-historic-mary-kathleen-mine-21449.html Orion Metals (ASX: ORM) will begin field evaluations of the Broughton Creek Project joint venture area in Queensland this week to assess a number of zones of rare earth element mineralisation discovered by Broughton Minerals during prospecting activities over the past two years.

Significantly, the Broughton Creek Project is located 30 kilometres south of the historic Mary Kathleen rare earth element and uranium mine, operated by Goldsearch (ASX: GSE) and Yunnan Copper Resources (ASX: CYU).

Last month the Mary Kathleen Joint Venture confirmed an intercept of 109 metres at 2.13% copper equivalent, 1.98 grams per tonne of gold, 0.5% copper and 482 parts per million cobalt, which includes an internal zone of high grade gold and uranium centred within broad and consistent copper, cobalt, molybdenum, cerium mineralisation.

The Broughton Creek Project covers 137 square kilometres and the joint venture has discovered previously unrecorded extensive surface rare earth element and uranium mineralisation from rockchip samples within the tenement.

The joint venture’s primary interest is approximately 10 individual zones spread over an area of 4 kilometres by 4 kilometres, where highly anomalous rare earth elements and uranium occur in linear structures exhibiting background radioactivity.

Numerous samples have been taken from the various sections of these zones which confirm high grade rare earth elements and uranium values.

Also found during follow-up of radiometric anomalies was a broad breccia zone over 400 metres long where low order uranium mineralisation occurs with anomalous zinc and base metals and low tenor rare earth element geochemistry.

Another narrow 2 kilometre structural zone with associated alteration phases hosts significant zirconium (over 1%) and hafnium up to 2,000 parts per million.

Minor copper occurrences in the area reportedly have associated gold levels up to 8.55 grams per tonne in a few samples tested, which will be field checked.

Orion is planning a 12 month exploration program comprising reverse circulation drilling of the highest priority geochemical and most interesting geologic targets following mapping of the project and subject to the results.

The company has an option to earn up to a 90% interest in the Broughton Creek Project through its wholly owned subsidiary Broughton Orion.

A total of 2,022 metres was drilled with 19 holes at Killi Killi West and 21 holes in the MetalBank (ASX: MBK) joint venture licence.

Orion has previously confirmed at Killi Killi that 20 samples contained levels of the heavy rare earth elements including dysprosium, ytterbium, and erbium.

A maximum value for yttrium of 2.06% was recorded and the calculated average yttrium for the 45 samples was 1,327 parts per million (ppm), along with some uranium up to a maximum of 326ppm.

The company is now eagerly awaiting analytical results from the laboratory and a suite of selected samples from both areas has been submitted for petrological examination.

Orion plans to extend the drill pattern in September at Killi Killi West and on geological and radiometric features along strike in an east direction from it. Work will proceed on approval of a plan of Works and the availability of a drill rig.

The data acquired in an airborne and radiometric survey is currently being processed and an initial review suggest that new additional drill targets will be generated.

Broughton has discovered new uranium / rare earth element mineralisation at Broughton Creek, 30 kilometres south of the historic Mary Kathleen U/REE mine, highlighting the prospectivity in the area.

Under the agreement, Orion will pay Broughton $150,000 in compensation for past exploration expenses.

Orion will then have the right to earn up to 90% equity in the project by an initial expenditure of $2 million for a 50% interest over five years, then an additional $1 million for each incremental 10% stake.

Broughton has completed 1,700 line kilometres of high resolution airborne magnetics and radiometric geophysics at the site.

Rock and mineral samples have also been conducted with 149 samples returning an average grade of total rare earth elements.

Highlights from sampling include: dysprosium at 2,933 parts per million (ppm), neodymium at 8,487ppm, samarium at 1,356ppm, ytterbium at 1,856ppm and yttrium at 8,086ppm.

Broughton Creek is located 20 kilometres west of Malbon, Queensland. A rail line runs through the town and the Cloncurry - Dejarra Road is adjacent.

Orion has other rare earth elements interests at the Killi Killi Project on the Western Australia - Northern Territory border.

The sample analyses indicate that the mineralisation is not hosted in veins and it appears pervasively mineralised and possibly associated with interstitial cubic crystals throughout the conglomerate/course sandstone.

Orion said the purpose of the recent sampling was to confirm the existence and distribution of HREE indicated by the historical work within a 1-3 metre thick basal conglomerate, which extends for 2kms in outcrop as a major regional unconformity.

A first stage drilling program has been developed and steps are now underway to complete the statutory requirements for access to the site so that drilling can commence, with an anticipated commencement within 90 days.

The market applauded the announcement, with the shares up again 0.095, or 76% to $0.22 in intra-day trading.

<![CDATA[News - Orion Metals rare earth tenement acquistion, share price up 76% ]]> https://www.proactiveinvestors.com.au/companies/news/140185/orion-metals-rare-earth-tenement-acquistion-share-price-up-76-9908.html Orion Metals (ASX: ORM) has acquired the Killi Killi Hills Prospect from Mount Resources, which consists of two West Australian tenements, EL 80/4029 and EL 80/4197.

The company said the prospect is near Northern Uranium's (ASX: NTU) Browns Range Heavy Rare Earth Element Project.

Total consideration is $55,000, which includes $30,000 in cash and the issue of 500,000 ORM ordinary shares at $0.05, with the possibility ORM will pay a 1% future royalty of the gross sales (capped at $100,000) to Mount.

Tenement E80/4029 covers 32.3 square kilometres over 10 blocks and tenement E80/4197 is 9.7 square kilometres over 3 blocks, for a total of 42 square kilometres.

The tenements are located on the Northern Territory border, approximately 10km north of the Halls Creek - Alice Springs road on the northern edge of the Tanami Desert, approximately 300km south-east of Halls Creek.

A field inspection was conducted in July as part of the due diligence and 45 rock chip samples were collected in the immediate area of the 2 radiometric anomalies previously identified, with the indicated uranium mineralisation confirmed by spectrometer.

Orion anticipates a complete set of lab results for each sample and a petrology report will be available within the next 7 days.

Exploration in 1969 confirmed low order uranium occurrences in a flat-dipping Upper Proterozoic basal conglomerate overlying Lower Proterozoic basement.

Limited analysis at the time indicated the presence of Rare Earth Elements (REE), particularly yttrium and the 'heavy' members of the REE suite.

The market liked the news, with Orion shares up $0.065, or 76% to $0.15 in intra-day trading.

<![CDATA[News - Orion Metals hits magnetite mineralisation at Top Camp ]]> https://www.proactiveinvestors.com.au/companies/news/140184/orion-metals-hits-magnetite-mineralisation-at-top-camp--8140.html Orion Metals (ASX: ORM) completed a programme of eight RC holes on 18 June for a total of 1,554 metres in the central part of the company’s mining leases at the Top Camp gold-copper project, located 40 kilometres south of Cloncurry, Queensland.

Five of the holes were drilled into a discrete bulls-eye magnetic anomaly beneath Mary Douglas Hill, the site of an historic lode and alluvial gold workings.

Three of the five holes intersected altered magnetite rock. Other than extensive alteration and quartz there was no other obvious visible mineralisation evident.

However, the samples are now subject to laboratory analysis to determine if any gold mineralisation is present.

The remaining three holes were drilled into magnetic anomalies which were peripheral to the central zone which also intersected magnetite mineralisation of a type different to that observed at Mary Douglas Hill.

James Canning-Ure, managing director, said quantitative analyses of the samples from the collar to the bottom of each of the eight holes is underway and the company anticipates that these will be available for disclosure in July 2010.

Qualitative geological correlation and analysis of the features intersected is presently being conducted and Orion expects these results to also be completed in July 2010.

Top Camp is situated 45 kilometres to the south from the Rocklands copper discovery owned by CuDeco Limited (ASX: CDU) and its known mineralisation is typically of the iron oxide-copper-cobalt-gold type.

<![CDATA[News - Orion Metals kicks off drilling at Top Camp gold copper project ]]> https://www.proactiveinvestors.com.au/companies/news/140183/orion-metals-kicks-off-drilling-at-top-camp-gold-copper-project-7691.html Orion Metals (ASX: ORM) has commenced drilling at the Top Camp gold-copper project, located 40 kilometres south of Cloncurry, Queensland.

Top Camp is situated 45 kilometres to the south from the Rocklands copper discovery owned by CuDeco Limited (ASX: CDU) and its known mineralisation is typically of the iron oxide-copper-cobalt-gold type.

James Canning-Ure, managing director, said the targets of this drilling campaign are the significant magnetic anomalies related to alluvial gold and copper-gold prospects that have previously been mined within Top Camp’s four square kilometres of mining leases.

Eight RC drill holes are planned, each to a depth of approximately 200 metres, and drilling is expected to be completed in approximately 10 days. However the rig is capable of drilling to 350 metres if encouraging mineralisation is intersected.

Top Camp is the site of the original Cloncurry alluvial gold field with the source of the gold remaining undiscovered.
