“It is a matter of when, not if, for the US,” Rowe stressed.

He said the fact that Rhyolite Ridge also included considerable boron resources was another feather in the company’s cap with boron being an important tech metal.

Lithium and boron together are extremely rare and there are only two significant projects in the world -  Rhyolite Ridge and the Jadar project of Rio Tinto plc (LON:RIO) in Serbia.

ioneer has a market cap of about $250-270 million and an enterprise value of $180 million.

ioneer is working hard to further enhance the project with ongoing optimisation work reducing costs while exploration in the broad project area is returning encouraging results with the potential to add to resources.

Strong news flow

Strong ongoing news flow is expected through 2019.

The company is one-third of the way through a definitive feasibility study which is scheduled for completion in the third quarter.

With test work showing that lithium and boric acid can be produced on site, a pilot plant is being built with completion expected by the end of the current quarter.

Updated resource and reserve statements are due in the September quarter.

Suitable for open-pit mining

Rhyolite Ridge is a shallow, thick and flat lying deposit which is suitable for open-pit mining with a low strip ratio.

There are two revenue streams while the mine currently has a mine life of at least 30 years with production forecast to begin in 2021.

Best-in-class sulphuric acid production technology will be used in the design of the acid plant which will produce 3,500 tonnes per day of sulphuric acid for leaching purposes.

The acid plant will also produce the steam/heat necessary for the processing plant.

SNC provided an updated budgetary cost estimate of about US$111 million, which is about US$60 million lower than the US$1770 million estimated in the preliminary feasibility study (PFS) in October 2018.

Pilot plan to commence operating in late April

Bulk ore samples from both outcrop and drill core will be run through the pilot plant, which is expected to commence operating in late April 2019.

Outcropping lithium-boron ore will be sourced from ioneer’s fully permitted bulk sample site, where 30 tonnes will be sourced.

Additionally, an estimated seven tonnes of drill core from the recently completed drill program is already in storage for use in the pilot plant.

Engineering and design firm Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) was appointed to complete the project’s definitive feasibility study which is expected to be finished in quarter three 2019.

The work program for the next few months includes discussions for potential off-take, financial and strategic partners, flow sheet optimisation and completion of infill and extensional drilling.

An ore reserve and mineral resource update based on the drilling results will be undertaken, aiming to upgrade the starter pit’s resource to the measured category.

The company also appointed Ian Bucknell as chief financial officer, who will play a key role in both financing the project and building necessary organisational capabilities and processes.

Rowe also noted the potential for Rhyolite Ridge to become the largest lithium producer in the United States.

The PFS estimated production costs of US$1,796 a tonne of lithium carbonate with a boric acid credit.

Production would begin in 2021 with an initial plus-30-year mine life and the opportunity to extend.

Annual production will amount to 20,200 tonnes of lithium carbonate and 173,000 tonnes of boric acid per year.

Fluor has started work on the DFS with project setup, scheduling and zero-base-design completed during the quarter.

Major process activities are underway including trade-off studies relating to the sulphuric acid plant and final lithium products.

Fluor president mining & metals Tony Morgan said Rhyolite Ridge would be a flagship project for Fluor, its client ioneer and for the United States.

He noted the project’s status as one of the world’s largest undeveloped lithium-boron deposits and one of the largest greenfield resource projects in the United States.

Morgan added: “We’ve assembled a strong and highly experienced team to deliver this exciting project.”

A drilling program comprising about 40 holes is currently being undertaken to upgrade the lithium-boron mineral resource to the measured category.

The program also aims to extend the high-grade, shallow mineralisation to the south of the proposed starter pit.

With the gently-dipping lithium-boron zone averaging 20 metres in thickness, extensions to the current resource are likely to add significant near-surface tonnes.

Initial assays for the first nine holes were released during the quarter which indicated higher boron grades of about plus-30% than currently modelled for the initial mining area.

Rowe continued: “Initial results from our 2018-19 drilling program have already indicated that cash flows in the first few years of mining are expected to be improved by increasing boron grades mined and lowering the strip ratio.

“With approximately $70 million cash, we are able to undertake the work required to rapidly progress Rhyolite Ridge towards production.

“With the in-depth knowledge provided by the PFS, the company is well positioned to advance serious discussions with a diverse range of potential market and finance partners.”

Boron grades in the first three years of the PFS mine plan average 1.03% boron (equivalent to 5.9% boric acid).

The recent drilling results are likely to increase the boric acid grade in the first few years of the starter pit.

Each 1% increase in the boric acid grade would provide a revenue increase of about US$6 a tonne of ore processed, assuming a boric acid sale price of US$700 a tonne.

At the PFS base case processing rate of 2.6 million tonnes per year, each 1% increase also equates to an additional US$15.6 million of revenue per annum.

A drilling program comprising about 46 holes is being undertaken to upgrade the current lithium-boron resource at Rhyolite Ridge to the measured category and extend high-grade, shallow mineralisation to the south of the proposed starter pit.

Initial assays have been received from the first nine holes showing:
• Higher boron grades (circa 30%) than currently modelled for the area planned to be mined during the first few years; and
• Extension to the south of shallow, high-grade lithium-boron mineralisation.

“With the aim of upgrading the current mineral resource and extending the shallow lithium-boron mineralisation further to the south, the three rigs currently on site will continue drilling into 2019.

“This work is a fundamental part of the Rhyolite Ridge definitive feasibility study (DFS), which Fluor Corporation has recently commenced.”

 

ioneer had released the Rhyolite Ridge pre-feasibility study (PFS) in October 2018.

The PFS included a two-stage mine development – a starter pit covering the first seven years and an expanded pit covering a mine life of over 30 years.

However, the supporting documentation for the ore reserve estimate was only recently finalised. The maiden ore reserve has now been estimated for the first stage of mine development:

• 15.8 million tonnes at 1,900 ppm lithium (equivalent to 1.0% lithium carbonate) and 12,200 ppm boron (equivalent to 7.0% boric acid);
• Containing the equivalent of 160,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate and 1.1 million tonnes of boric acid.

Rowe added: “The recently completed PFS demonstrated the project’s scale, long life and potential to become the lowest cost lithium producer in the world as well as the largest lithium producer in the United States with annual production of 20,200 tonnes of lithium carbonate.”

ioneer released a pre-feasibility study (PFS) for its flagship Rhyolite Ridge Lithium-Boron Project in the US state of Nevada two weeks ago, modelling a 30-plus-year mine life.

The PFS put forward a notable low cost for producing lithium equivalent, due to the high volume and value of the boron by-product it would produce along with lithium carbonate.

ioneer’s Houston-based non-executive chairman James D Calaway spoke to Proactive Investors about this week’s name change, saying the name reflected the company's new direction.

Calaway said: “I love the name Global Geosciences, and it was perfectly suited to the company-that-was before the discovery of Rhyolite Ridge.

“It was a company of really outstanding geologists who were running around the world looking for prospects and ideas and working with big companies and trying to develop ideas for projects.

“Then when we made the discovery of this extraordinarily important asset at Rhyolite Ridge, the nature of the company was changing.

“We (became) the developer of the most important lithium and new boron facility in North America.”

Change the name, build awareness

Calaway has experience with chairing a lithium company with boron exposure, having been a non-executive chairman of Orocobre Ltd (ASX:ORE) (TSX:ORL) (OTCMKTS:OROCF) for eight years as the multi-listed company became a lithium carbonate producer.

Speaking on ioneer, the chairman said that as Global Geoscience the company decided it would stop “investing in a name that doesn’t reflect where we are and where we’re going”.

Calaway said: “We (are) focused on building a big mine and a substantial speciality chemicals facility that would produce critical materials for a sustainable future.”

The company believed it should change its name before it became better known.

The company followed a process to “rebrand and rethink” itself to reflect its new focus.

Then-Global was presented with about 150 names during its rebrand-and-rethink process, choosing ioneer to reflect its ambition to become a pioneer of ion use for a sustainable future.

Calaway said: “Our mission as a company, we thought a lot about that, was to responsibly and profitably produce the materials that were necessary for a sustainable future.

“It’s such an exciting future and one that we can obtain but just executing against our cornerstone project Rhyolite and really become a player in this.”

 

Introduce pre-feasibility study

Less than two weeks ago the company debuted its PFS produced by Wood plc subsidiary Amec Foster Wheeler.

ioneer's study put the Rhyolite Ridge project’s after-tax net present value (NPV) at US$1.8 billion at a 7% real discount rate.

The after-tax internal rate of return (IRR) was 27.7%, making the payback period on the 30-plus-year mine a short 4.1 years.

Initial capital expenditure (capex) was US$426 million including indirect costs and contingency plus $173 million for a lump-sum turnkey sulphuric acid plant.

Life-of-mine after-tax cashflow was tipped at US$6.6 billion, with annual steady state revenues of US$450 million and annual steady state earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of US$297 million.

Under the PFS, ioneer’s lithium carbonate grade would be 0.95%, at 81.8% recovery rate, for total production of about 20,200 tonnes a year over the life of the mine.

The company’s boric acid grade would be 7.81%, with 83.5% recoveries, for life-of-mine annual production of 173,000 tonnes.

ioneer’s PFS figures were calculated with a June 2018 financial quarter US dollar and were based on lithium carbonate sale prices ranging from US$12,693 to US$16,862 a tonne (CIF China) and a constant boric acid sale price of US$700 a tonne (CIF Asia).

 

Use standard technology

Calaway highlighted the study’s low cost of lithium equivalent production, and the sophistication of its process sheet.

He said: “The smarter and more informed the viewer is, the more excited they get about it.

“The real important work was in the processing sequences and when we finished all of our work and all of our extensive metallurgical test work we realised we had a completely closed system fully accounted for and we really didn’t have to use any kind of advanced technology.

“We’ve tested it extensively so we are very confident in being the low-cost producer in the planet, in the United States for goodness’ sake.”

Address capex questions

The chairman addressed excitement about the study and questions about the project’s capital expenditure (capex) figure.

“We are certainly seeing large investment banks are excited about (the project), we’re very excited about it and I think the only thing that people are a little bit surprised about is the capex was a little higher than … market consensus.

“A lot of that just has to do with that the cost of the heart of the operation, the sulphuric acid plant, which really drives a lot of important components of our project — that those costs were higher than we thought — I think that the market was a little worried about that compared to our market cap.”

The company’s market capitalisation is $382 million (US$274.6 million), with the project’s capex being US$426 million.

Calaway acknowledged the company was educating the market: “Look we are also doing a better job, now that the results of the PFS are out, of explaining to people that we have significant optionality in how we go about financing both the sulphuric acid plant and related power, that we think could easily offset the (US)$170-or-so-million that are associated with that.

“That would put our project well in line with the optimistic view of what our costs would be.

“I think that if we talk to the market, get out and explain what we’ve actually thought, and people get past the concern — about the capex — and they look at the IRR and levered returns that we think we’ll get, and being the lowest cost producer in the world of lithium in the United States … there’ll be great uplift in our valuations.”

Take next steps

ioneer is expected to soon choose one of three large engineering firms to work on its Rhyolite Ridge definitive feasibility study (DFS) and engineering design and procurement management contract, with work to then start straight away.

The company is hoping to receive the completed DFS early on in the September 2019 financial quarter.

ioneer’s DFS will include pilot plant studies, with a decision upcoming on which laboratory the pilot plant should be constructed at.

The company has raised $83 million with two placements in the past 14 months and is fully funded to its final investment decision (FID).

An investment decision from the company’s board is targeted for the end of next year.

The study prepared by Wood plc independent engineering firm Amec Foster Wheeler is being shared with investors today at 11am market time, as Global Geoscience managing director Bernard Rowe conducted a live webcast.

Global Geoscience managing director Bernard Rowe highlighted the benefits of the project’s location in an interview with Proactive Investors, saying the large, stable market had low sovereign risk and “a desire to have their own sources of critical metals” such as battery minerals.

“Our experienced technical team and management … have built and operated lithium-boron mines previously, so we have an experienced team that’s capable of building a project like this, which I think is very important as not many companies can say actually that.”

Earlier today Rowe told the market: “We are delighted by the outcomes of the PFS that clearly show Rhyolite Ridge will be a structurally-low-cost and very long-life mine supplying two critical materials necessary for urbanisation and energy efficiency.”

The company’s PFS estimates a $1.82 billion after-tax net present value (NPV) for the project at a 7% real discount rate.

The after-tax internal rate of return (IRR) is 27.7%, making the payback period a short 4.1 years.

Rowe reported: “Rhyolite Ridge is ideally positioned to become a major, low-cost and long-term supplier of both lithium and boron products to major markets within the USA and Asia.

“The boron co-product will generate sufficient revenue to cover nearly all operating costs and thereby enable Rhyolite Ridge to be the lowest cost producer of lithium in the world.”

Acknowledging the company’s forecast for very-low-cost lithium production, Rowe explained the reason why the reason why the project was so low cost.

Rowe told Proactive Investors: “When we produce a tonne of carbonate we also produce 10 tonnes of boric acid and that boric acid is quite valuable, so that’s why this project can have the claim of being potentially the lowest cost lithium producer in the world.”

The company plans to process 79 tonnes over the life of the mine in the mature mining jurisdiction at an average processing rate of 2.6 million tonnes a year.

Global Geoscience has planned a conservative approach to start-up with Wheeler’s help and will adopt conventional processing technologies while maintaining optionality and scalability.

The company believes its low operating costs and dual revenues of lithium and boron sales would help protect it against supply-and-demand product cycles for the two products which are currently in short supply in the increasingly domestically-focused US minerals market.

Global Geoscience’s lithium carbonate grade would be 0.95%, at 81.8% recovery rate, for total production of about 20,200 tonnes a year over the life of the mine.

The company’s boric acid grade would be 7.81%, with 83.5% recoveries, for life-of-mine annual production of 173,000 tonnes.

Global Geoscience emphasised the “strong project economics” laid out in its PFS market announcement and executive summary.

These included annual steady-state revenues of US$450 million a year over the life of mine, with annual steady-state earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation of US$297 million a year.

The annual steady-state after-tax cash flow would be US$240 million while its total after-tax cash flow would be US$240 million a year.

The sums result in a $1.82 billion after-tax net present value (NPV) at a 7% real discount rate.

The resulting after-tax internal rate of return (IRR) is 27.7%, making the payback period a short 4.1 years.

All the figures were calculated with a June 2018 financial quarter US dollar and were based on lithium carbonate sale prices ranging from US$12,693 to US$16,862 a tonne (CIF China) and a constant boric acid sale price of US$700 a tonne (CIF Asia).

Next steps

The company will release its full PFS in November 2018.

Global Geoscience is currently selecting a partner to help it produce a definitive feasibility study for the Rhyolite Ridge project.

Rowe told Proactive Investors three large engineering firms had submitted tend bids to work on the company’s definitive feasibility study (DFS) and engineering design and procurement management contract and Global Geoscience was expecting to make its decision in the next couple of weeks and get started in the next few weeks.

Late last month, US-based Global Geoscience chairman James Calaway confirmed the company’s agenda for the next 12 months was to complete a definitive feasibility study, operate a pilot plant, drill and extend is resource, build its team and negotiate capital and business arrangements.

Rowe said today the company will start holding discussions with potential lithium and boron offtake partner, financial partners and plant builders.

He said Global Geoscience had held off holding detailed discussions with these parties to date and expected these discussions would continue as it worked towards producing a DFS by early in the September quarter and its board making a final investment decision (FID) by the end of 2019.

The company’s drill campaign began in July and field workers are now testing for extensions to the south of the project area.

Global Geoscience is likely to release some results before Christmas and expects to release an updated resource in the June half of calendar year 2019.

Rowe reported today: “With approximately A$75 million cash, we are able to undertake the work required to rapidly progress Rhyolite Ridge into production.

“With the in-depth knowledge provided by the PFS, the company is well positioned to commence serious discussions with a diverse range of potential market and finance partners.”

Rowe expected the company would make a number of “low-risk” long lead-time orders in the second half of next calendar year that pre-empt the year-end FID.

Global Geoscience shareholder will consider a name change to ion-pioneer name Ioneer Ltd (ASX:INR) on October 31, with rebranding efforts to kick off the week afterwards if the new name is given the all-clear.

“The PFS is on track for completion and release in Q3 2018 and any additional resource defined by the drilling program will be included in the mine plan after release of the PFS.

“The Rhyolite Ridge PFS is expected to demonstrate the strong economics of developing Rhyolite Ridge into a major, low-cost, near-term producer of lithium carbonate and boric acid.”

Global Geoscience anticipates the proposed mining operation will produce around 20-30,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate and 160-220,000 tonnes of boric acid per annum over the projected mine life.

Production rates are based on the indicated resource and indicative overall recoveries of 75-80% for lithium and boron, based on metallurgical test work undertaken by Global Geoscience.

Rhyolite Ridge is a large, shallow lithium-boron deposit close to existing infrastructure.

Shares in the company are currently in a trading halt while the placement is completed.

The halt will be lifted and shares will recommence trading tomorrow morning.

Low-cost producer of lithium and boron

Global Geoscience’s managing director Bernard Rowe said: “In recent months, Global has made significant steps to de-risk the ongoing development of the Rhyolite Ridge Lithium-Boron Project.

Proposed process flow sheet comprises three parts

The proposed three-part process flow sheet for Rhyolite Ridge is based on findings from the project’s recently completed first phase of the PFS.

Firstly, lithium and boron will be extracted from mined crushed rock using sulphuric acid leaching into a pregnant leach solution (PLS).

Secondly, the PLS will be further concentrated using a mechanical evaporator and the boric acid product is further refined by flotation and recrystallization.

Finally, the remaining impurities are removed via precipitation and ion exchange followed by the precipitation of lithium carbonate.

Mine and facilities to take up less than one square mile

The Rhyolite Ridge site layout has been designed with the total surface disturbance footprint of the mine and related facilities being less than one square mile or 640 acres.

This allows the Federal Bureau of Land Management to consider the project for the Environmental Assessment (EA) process.

The EA approval process can typically be completed within six to nine months of completion of baseline studies.

Momentum continues for Global Geoscience, who earlier in the month revealed recoveries of 98% lithium and 99% boron at their flagship Rhyolite Ridge Lithium-Boron Project located in Nevada.

Company shares are currently trading at $0.19, up 185% year to date.

The U.S. based lithium asset has peaked the interest of investors worldwide given the deposit’s size, location, shallow depth and most recently, positive metallurgical properties.

Its Nevada location means it is proximate to the Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) Gigafactory and world-class mining infrastructure.

Nevada is home to North America’s only lithium brine production operation, Silver Peak, owned and operated by Albemarle Corporation (NYSE:ALB).

Furthermore, one of the world’s two major boron refineries is located in the neighbouring state of California.

The 100% owned Rhyolite Ridge project consists of two sedimentary basins, the South Basin and the North Basin, located four kilometres apart.

The South Basin includes an Indicated and Inferred Resource of 3.4 million tonnes of lithium carbonate and 11.3 million tonnes of boric acid, making it one of the largest lithium and boron deposits in North America.

The resource is open in most directions and is likely to increase in size with additional drilling.

The North Basin hosts thick, shallow lithium-boron mineralisation drilled by wide-spaced holes that are not yet sufficient to estimate a resource.

The June quarter work program is focusing on work required for a pre-feasibility study including:

- Completion of acid leach test work (complete);
- Optimisation of flotation and acid-leach process steps;
- Production of a lithium-boron brine for crystallisation test work;
- Infill drilling to upgrade the high-grade lithium-boron resource to the Measured category;
- Upgrading of the JORC resource estimate; and
- Commencement of pre-feasibility work.

Importantly, individual 3 metre intervals up to 2.07% lithium indicate the potential for high-grade zones between and adjacent to the wide-spaced holes.

Global is planning to start drilling the high-grade targets at North and South Basins in the December quarter.

Meanwhile, the company is working towards establishing the maiden resource estimate at South Basin by early October 2016 using the existing database of drill hole data from 2010-2011.

Upon completion of a resource estimate and subject to positive preliminary metallurgical test work, the company will commence a pre-feasibility study (PFS) to assess the economic potential of the project.

Global is fully funded to complete a PFS on the project, after raising $6 million in August 2016 via a share placement at $0.075 each.

8800 metres of drilling has been undertaken at South Basin in 2010-2011 by American Lithium Minerals Inc, in conjunction with Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation.

Global has obtained access to this substantial exploration database, which would cost over $3 million to replicate.

An exploration target of 200-300 million tonnes grading 0.64-1.06% lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) and 0.6-1.2% boron has been calculated by Global for part of the South Basin area.

Notably, 84 rock chip samples collected by Global from outcrops over a strike length of 2.5 kilometres at South Basin returned grades of up to 2.0% LCE.

Most importantly, testing of rock chip samples show that >90% of total lithium content can be recovered using a weak-acid digest (leach).

This provides evidence that the hosted lithium can be extracted without the need for high-cost processing.

In June, Global secured an option to acquire a 100% interest in the Rhyolite Ridge Lithium-Boron Project from a private Nevada company.

Follow-up exploration identified the Towers Mountain porphyry intrusive and breccia complex as the source of the copper-molybdenum geochemical anomaly.

The deposit is an Intrusion Related Gold System, with similarities to the 9 million ounce Fort Knox gold deposit in Alaska, owned by the $6 billion Kinross Gold (NYSE:KGC).

Geological, geochemical and geophysical data suggest the intrusion at Tokop measures 1 kilometre by 2 kilometres, exposed in three areas at surface, separated by limestone and skarn.

The results confirm Global's interpretation that the gold at Tokop is present within sheeted and stockworked quartz veins in a number of zones within the intrusion.

Importantly for potential mining operations, Tokop lies just 15 kilometres from the main highway between Reno and Las Vegas.

Global is capitalised at around $6 million.

Reconnaissance exploration has been completed on 15 target areas selected by Global using its in-house structural targeting method with over 2,000 geochemical samples collected.

The results have led Antofagasta, which has a market cap of £7.6 billion and four operating mines in Chile, to release an additional US$200,000 of exploration funding, bringing the total approved budget up to US$400,000.

Global has already started detailed ground work that should lead to drilling at selected targets in 2014.

Antofagasta can earn 51% in a project by spending US$1 million per project over two years, and can increase its interest to 70% by spending a further US$4 million per project over an additional four years.

Tokop is a greenfield discovery with no prior drilling, all seven holes intersected gold mineralisation and most of it is shallow (<100m deep) and oxidised.

While early days, the Tokop Gold Project is an Intrusion Related Gold (IRG) system with similarities to other IRG deposits including Donlin Creek (31Moz), Fort Knox (9Moz) and Dublin Gulch (2Moz) in the Tintina Gold Province of Alaska/Yukon and Bald Mountain (8Moz) in Nevada.

The Tokop gold project is located 330 km southeast of Reno and 80 km south of Tonopah in southern Nevada, USA.

Notably, Global is free carried at the Tokop Gold Project is funded by Canadian gold producer Osisko Mining Corporation (TSE: OSK), which is earning an initial 45% interest by spending US$8 million by March 2016 and has the option to increase that to 70% by completing a feasibility study.

The maiden seven hole drilling program had intersected multiple wide zones of gold mineralisation including:

-    12.2 metres at 2.5 grams per tonne gold and 10g/t silver from 59.4 metres;
-    18.8 metres at 1.3g/t gold, 5g/t silver from 80.8 metres;
-    27.4 metres at 0.8g/t gold, 9g/t silver from 233.2 metres; and
-    21.3 metres at 0.6g/t gold from 94.5 metres.

This are consistent with previously reported surface trench results of 18 metres at 1.9g/t gold, 9 metres at 2.1g/t gold and 40 metres at 0.4g/t gold.

Results to date indicate potential for a large, open pittable oxide gold deposit with just a small part of the interpreted 2 kilometre by 1.1 kilometre intrusion tested in the initial drill program.

Further drilling is being planned to follow-up on these initial results which will be interesting no doubt, right now this is a fascinating discovery in Nevada.

The ASX has granted the company a trading halt to organise the announcement, with its shares placed in pre-open.

Tokop, and the nearby Excelsior Gold Project, are two tenements the company holds in southern Nevada that have only recently been recognised as intrusion related gold (IRG) systems.

Boosting the prospectivity of Tokop is the similarity of the system to other IRG deposits including Donlin Creek (31Moz), Fort Knox (9Moz) and Dublin Gulch (2Moz) in the Tintina Gold Province of Alaska/Yukon and Bald Mountain (8Moz) in Nevada.

The halt will last until the earlier of an announcement being made to the market, or the opening of trade on Tuesday 17th September.

The Tokop project is an intrusion related gold (IRG) system with similarities to IRG deposits in the Tintina Gold province of Alaska/Yukon. Projects at Tintina include the 31 million ounce Donlin Creek; 9 million ounce Fort Knox and 2 million ounce Dublin Gulch.

The drilling program will consist of at least five wide-spaced holes over a strike length of approximately 1 kilometres as an initial test of the 2000 metres by 750 metres zone of gold mineralisation.

While no modern exploration or previous drilling is known, rock chip and soil geochemical sampling has defined a gold zone measuring 2000 metres by 750 metres within a broader 2 kilometre by 1 kilometre halo that includes high levels of Ag-As-Bi-Mo-Te-W.

Trenching and channel sampling have returned results including 18 metres at 1.9 grams per tonne gold; 9 metres at 2.1 g/t gold 3 metres at 9.6g/t gold and 40 metres at 0.4g/t gold.

Osisko Mining Corporation is the owner and operator of the 10.1 million ounce Canadian Malartic gold mine in Canada.

Global and Osisko are targeting a shallow, multi-million ounce gold deposit at the Excelsior project in southern Nevada, with similar mineralisation to large, moderate grade gold deposits found in the Tintina Gold Province of Alaska/Yukon.

Some of the finds here have been massive, Donlin Creek (31Moz), Fort Knox (9Moz) and Dublin Gulch (2Moz).

Field work is advanced in Nevada with a focus on further developing the encouraging results from last year’s drilling programs at both projects.

At Excelsior, the aim is to better define gold mineralisation ahead of the next phase of drilling.

To date, wide-spaced drilling has intersected shallow gold mineralisation over a strike length of 2.3 kilometres. A ground magnetic survey has been completed and a resistivity (CSAMT) survey is about to commence.

While at Lone Mountain, 1100 geochemical samples have been collected as follow-up of the new gold anomalies discovered last year.

Results from these are still pending.

No doubt encouraging Osisko Mining is that Lone Mountain appears to share a number of geological similarities with the nearby Carlin Trend where approximately 150 million ounces of gold has been discovered to date.

Global's projects in Nevada are not lacking in potential sizzle factor, as the current program unfolds it should prove fascinating to watch.

Under the deal Osisko can earn an initial 45% interest in the projects by spending US$8 million over four years.

Osisko Mining (USA) is a subsidiary of Osisko Mining Corporation (TSX: OSK), owner and operator of the 10.1 million ounce Canadian Malartic gold mine.

Osisko will be funding gold exploration at the Lone Mt, Excelsior and Tokop projects while Global will pursue the large, untested silver-lead-zinc target at Lone Mt.


Multi-million ounce potential

Global Geoscience is targeting a multi-million ounce shallow gold deposit at the South Jasperoid prospect within the Lone Mt project.

South Jasperoid displays typical Carlin-style gold mineralisation.

A 2 kilometre long zone of anomalous gold-arsenic-mercury-antimony extends along a major fault.

Previous drilling has concentrated on the up-dip area to the west of the fault where the mineralised limestone units are at or near the surface.

Drill results from this area include 4.5 metres at 4.8 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 21.5 metres at 0.8g/t gold within broad zones of alteration.

The initial drill target is a 700 metre long by 300 metre wide section along the fault where the mineralised limestone dips into and intersects the fault.

Drilling is scheduled to begin toward the end of the June quarter.

A number of unexplained and untested gold geochemical anomalies have been identified at Lone Mt.

The anomalies do not correspond to any of the known prospects and therefore represent high priority targets for further investigation. Follow-up of these anomalies will begin in April.

Global is also targeting a shallow, multi-million ounce gold deposit at the Excelsior project.

Recent work has found that mineralisation is of the intrusion related gold type and similar to large, moderate grade gold deposits found in the Tintina Gold Province of Alaska/Yukon.

These include the 31 million ounce Donlin Creek, 9 million ounce Fort Knox and 2 million ounce Dublin Gulch.

Previous drilling by Global and other companies has intersected ore-grade gold mineralisation over a strike length of 1.3 kilometres.

The shallow plunging mineralisation starts at surface and is oxidised to over 100 metres depth.

Several parallel zones are yet to be drill tested. Wide-spaced scout drilling has extended the zone for a further kilometre to the east with broad intersections of strongly anomalous gold plus arsenic-bismuth-molybdenum-tellurium alteration and quartz veining.

The same type of mineralisation has been traced over a distance of 11 kilometres within the Excelsior project, most of which is untested by drilling.

Magnetic and induced polarisation geophysical surveys will be conducted during the June quarter ahead of the next round of drilling.

The geophysical surveys will assist in mapping the dykes and other intrusive bodies and associated silica-pyrite and skarn (magnetite) alteration.
