Black Smoker Ventures
Black Smoker Ventures is presently focused on the exploration of the Fox Lake Property in Manitoba, Canada. Black Smoker’s 100% owned Fox Lake VMS Project consists of ground covering the former producing Fox Lake Copper Mine. A total of approximately 12 million tonnes grading 1.82 % copper and 1.78% zinc was produced from the Fox Mine in the years 1970 to 1985, according to the Manitoba Mineral Resources Division. Black Smoker Ventures has now completed the first modern deep penetrating geophysical survey on the property resulting in the identification of multiple targets.

Company Statement:
Black Smoker Ventures' 100% owned Fox Lake VMS Project consists of ground covering the former producing Fox Lake Copper Mine. According to the Manitoba Mineral Resources Division, a total of approximately 12 million tonnes (11,958,182t) grading 1.82% copper and 1.78% zinc was produced from the Fox Mine between 1970-1985. The Fox Mine has never been explored at depth and Black Smoker Ventures has now completed the first modern deep penetrating geophysical survey on the property resulting in the identification of multiple targets to be tested in the first quarter of 2012. The potential exists to target high grade VMS deposits at depth and bulk tonnage copper and zinc potential near surface and Black Smoker’s imminent drill program allows short lead time to potential discovery.
Current Operations:
The Fox Lake VMS property is located in Manitoba, Canada, approximately 20 km east of the Manitoba-Saskatchewan boundary and approximately 45km south of Lynn Lake. The Fox Lake VMS property is favourably located with accessibility from a major paved highway (Provincial Highway No. 396 from Lynn Lake) and close access to rail and power. Black Smoker Ventures will target volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) deposits of the Fox Lake property. VMS deposits contain some of the most valuable aggregates of metal in the world.
The historical Fox Lake VMS deposit, on which Black Smoker Ventures' exploration model is based, consisted of two stratiform sulphide lenses (Main and West zones) with a combined strike length of 425 m, underlain by stockwork sulphides with an associated hydrothermal-alteration envelope. According to the Manitoba Mineral Resources Division, a total of approximately 12 million tonnes (11,958,182t) grading 1.82% copper and 1.78% zinc was mined from Fox Mine between the years 1970 – 1985, a time of very low copper and zinc prices relative to today. Despite this prolific historic production, the area was never explored through modern deep penetrating geophysical techniques and the potential exists to target both large, high grade VMS deposits at depth as well as additional large, high grade VMS lenses along strike and bulk tonnage copper and zinc potential near surface.
Black Smoker Ventures' Plan of Action for the Fox Lake VMS Property includes:
- data compilation relating to historical work, including an analysis of the potential for a large bulk tonnage situation close to surface
- ground geophysics including the first ever modern deep penetrating geophysical survey of the property
- drill testing of any new geophysical anomalies found in the ground geophysical survey, drill testing of the bulk tonnage target and drill testing below the main historical zone.
The program will be operated by an experienced team of Canadian geologists and geophysicists, with particular leadership coming from exploration professionals with experience in Manitoba VMS exploration.
