Because of their smaller size and higher capabilities, Sarantel’s antennas enable manufacturers to create innovative wireless products for the GPS, Satellite Radio and Satellite phone markets.

Sarantel has developed an intellectual property portfolio comprising of over a dozen core patents with hundreds of international filings on the design and production of dielectrically loaded antennas.

Brief history

Sarantel Limited was formed in March 2000 as a management buyout of technology developed by Dr. Oliver Leisten. The company is based in Wellingborough, UK where its research and development and administrative departments are located next to its world-class manufacturing facility.

The first commercial shipments of innovative GPS antennas began in 2001.

SL1200 Passive Antenna

Based on patented GeoHelix® technology SL1200 GPS antenna provides high performance in difficult GPS applications using a quadrafilar helix design. The SL1200 is ideal for applications where a device is handheld, body-worn, or otherwise surrounded by high-dielectric materials that would de-tune conventional antennas.

Applications:

The antenna is ideally suited for GPS enabled UMPC/MID applications, tracking devices, DSC/SLR cameras for Geotagging, GPS/GSM mobile devices or and any device which cannot accommodate a large ground plane for the antenna.

SL1203 Series Antennas

Based on the SL1200 passive antenna, using patented GeoHelix® technology and enclosed in a water resistant and dust proof enclosure, the SL1203 rugged passive antenna provides a complete easy to connect solution for applications where customers need a high performing rugged antenna. The SL1203 connects using a male SMA connector

SL1204 Active Antenna

Designed for quick integration with the latest GPS modules and chipsets, the SL1204 provides 18dB of gain through a single built in amplification stage. The low current consumption further assists with integration of GPS into mobile applications.

SL1206 Active Antenna

Original Sarantel active antenna now based on SL1200 GeoHelix® P2 passive antenna, the SL1206 provides up to 26dB gain, ideal for use with many of the leading GPS chipsets and modules available on the market. Simple connection to pcb allow for easy integration into customer designs.

SL1300 (LBS Pro) Passive Antenna

Based on patented GeoHelix® filtering antenna technology the SL1300 is ideally suited for small, tightly integrated GPS devices with multiple radios that require high positional accuracy. Unlike other conventional antennas, the SL1300 achieves uplift in gain once integrated into the customer’s product.

Applications:

Portable, Hand Held Products and tightly Integrated GPS devices including digital cameras, tracking devices, mobile phones, UMPC’s & MID’s.

SL3101 & SL3105 Passive Iridium Antenna

Built on patented PowerHelix® filtering antenna technology, the SL3101 & SL3105 Iridium antennas provide high performance in difficult Iridium applications using an decafilar helix design. The SL3101 & SL3105 antennas are ideal in applications where:

the device is handheld, body-worn, or otherwise surrounded by high-dielectric materials that would de-tune conventional antennas

the antenna is tightly integrated with other antennas, e.g., Iridium/GPS receivers

there are tight constraints on the size of the device or the amount of space allocated to ground planes

Applications:

Any product using Iridium modems.

Geoff Shingles, Chairman

Geoff was previously Executive Chairman of Digital Equipment Co Limited, where he served for 29 years in the UK, US and Continental Europe. Geoff is also Chairman of Imagination Technologies Group plc and a Non-Executive Director of a number of private companies.

 
David Wither, Chief Executive Officer

Prior to joining Sarantel, David was a Director at RF Micro Devices Inc. with responsibility for European sales and the Bluetooth product line. He holds a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management and spent seven years as an officer with the US Army Corps of Engineers.

 
Dr. Oliver Leisten, Chief Technology Officer and founder

Oliver has over 25 years' experience in the radio communications industry. He was responsible for the development of a portfolio of patents for miniature dielectric loaded antennas, which form the intellectual property rights owned by Sarantel. Previously, Oliver was Chief Technologist at Symmetricom Limited, responsible for leading a team of specialist radio systems and design engineers.

Nicola Malyon, Chief Financial Officer

Nicola joined Sarantel in March 2009 as Group Financial Controller and was appointed to the Board as CFO in April 2011. She is a Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians and a part qualified Chartered Management Accountant. With over 20 years' experience of working in both private practice and industry, she has adapted to a wide range of industry sectors including PCB manufacture, printing and publishing, private health and modular buildings. Previously, Nicola was Finance Director at Tingdene Homes Limited.

 
John Uttley, Non-executive Director

Until 1997 John served as Finance Director of National Grid Group. John has held and still holds a wide portfolio of non-executive chairmanships and directorships of companies at both start-up and growth phases including companies in the telecoms sector. John is Chairman of the Audit Committee.

 
Philip David, Non-executive Director

Philip is General Counsel at ARM Holdings, the world’s leading designer of microprocessors for portable devices, and a member of its executive committee. He has nearly 20 years experience in the field of intellectual property (IP) law and helped ARM develop its IP protection and exploitation strategies. Philip is Chairman of the Remuneration and Nominations Committee.
