Great Western Minerals Group Ltd. is engaged in becoming an integrated rare earth producer. Its specialty alloys are used in the battery, magnet and aerospace industries. Produced at the Company’s wholly owned subsidiaries Less Common Metals Limited in Ellesmere Port, U.K. and Great Western Technologies Inc. in Troy, Michigan, these alloys contain transition metals including nickel, cobalt, iron and rare earth elements. As part of the Company’s vertical integration strategy, GWMG also holds 100% equity ownership in Rare Earth Extraction Co. Limited, which controls the Steenkampskraal monazite mine. In addition to an exploration program at Steenkampskraal, GWMG also holds interests in four active rare earth exploration and development properties in North America.

Great Western Minerals Group Ltd. (GWMG) is a Saskatchewan-based junior exploration company. Listed on the TSX Venture Exchange (TSX.V: GWG), GWMG is engaged in the acquisition, exploration, and development of rare earth mineral properties in North America and Africa.
Current properties include two rare earth projects in Saskatchewan, Canada, one in New Brunswick, Canada, one in Utah, USA, and one in South Africa . The most advanced projects is the 100%-owned Hoidas Lake Rare Earth Project, located in northern Saskatchewan, and the Steenkampskraal Project in South Africa.
Rare earth elements (REEs) are used in many alternative energy technologies such as wind power generation, fuel cells, rechargeable batteries, hydrogen storage, and permanent magnets used in electric and electric-hybrid vehicles. The rare earth elements comprise the lanthanide series of elements and include lanthanum, cerium, neodymium, praseodymium, samarium, europium, gadolinium and yttrium.
Great Western Minerals currently has three projects in development, one of which (Hoidas Lake) has been advanced to the prefeasibility stage of development.
GWMG's goal is to put in place a "mine-to-market" strategy and become North America's first vertically integrated rare earth elements producer. To that end, GWMG acquired its wholly owned subsidiary and processing facility, Great Western Technologies Inc. (GWTI), in January of 2006, and Less Common Metals Ltd., in June of 2008.

The former-producing Steenkampskraal Mine is located approximately 70 km north of the town of Vanrhynsdorp, population 4,000, in the Western Cape Province of South Africa and is approximately 350 km north and west of Cape Town.
