Shares fell 17% to $20.53 at 1:41 p.m. in New York, after touching $20.43, the lowest intraday price since April 2013.

Net income decreased to $25.9mln in the three months ended August 29 from $26.2mln last year, the Indianapolis, Indiana-based company said in a statement on Friday.

On a per-share basis, Finish Line earned $0.57, up from $0.54 thanks to a lower share count. 

Revenue increased 3.5% to $483.2mln year-over-year.

Analysts projected $0.57 in per-share earnings on $490.8mln in sales, according to Capital IQ estimates.

The company, which has been crimped by more promotions and lower mall traffic, said expenses rose 5.1% to $117.6mln.

Brokers - Ralph Lauren upgraded by Citi Fashion brand Ralph Lauren (NYSE:RL) got a leg-up on Friday, as heavyweight broker Citi upgraded the stock to 'buy' from 'neutral' previously.

Shares gained 0.72% in early deals to US$109.99.

Also on the upgrade front, Monster Beverage (NYSE:MNST) was moved by Goldman Sachs to 'buy' from 'neutral'.

MacQuarie is now more positive on IT and compliance specialist Qualys (NYSE:QLYS) and moved it to 'neutral' from 'underperform'.

In terms of downgrades, analysts at Standpoint Research have moved Abercrombie and Fitch (NYSE: ANF) to 'hold' from 'buy'.

 Meanwhile, JP Morgan Cazenove has pushed satellite image group DigitalGlobe (NYSE:DGI) down to 'neutral' from 'overweight', while the target goes to US$27 from US$30.

Yesterday, it told investors that third-quarter profit had lagged behind market expectations.

Profit in the quarter through October will be as much as $0.37 per share, the Canadian company said in a statement.  Analysts, however, estimated a figure of $0.42 per share.

After slumping more than 16% on Thursday to US$53.54, pre-market dealing saw the stock just less than 1% better at around US$54.

Lululemon tumbles as Q3 forecast misses Street view Lululemon Athletica (NASDAQ:LULU) tumbled on Thursday after the yogawear maker forecast third-quarter profit that lagged behind market expectations.

Shares fell 13% to $55.60, the lowest intraday price since January, at 12 pm in New York. The shares had advanced 15% this year through Wednesday.

Profit in the quarter through October will be as much as $0.37 per share, the Vancouver, British Columbia-based company said in a statement on Thursday. 

Analysts estimated $0.42 per share, according to Capital IQ.

Lululemon, however, raised its forecast for full-year earnings by a penny, to as much as $1.92 per share.

The company reported a second-quarter profit of $0.34 per share, beating analysts’ $0.33  average estimate. 

Revenue rose 16% to $453mln, also beating projections.

Lululemon has been struggling to rework its image after it had to recall some yoga pants for being too sheer and as shoppers’ preference shifted from basics to more elaborate designs.

Vera Bradley has it in the bag Vera Bradley (NASDAQ:VRA) shares were a must-have accessory in pre-market trading as the handbags seller topped expectations with its results.

Second quarter net income of US$5.7mln was down from US$7.6mln in the same quarter of 2014, but earnings per share (EPS) of 15 cents (2014: 19 cents) were ahead of market forecasts of 11 cents.

Revenue from continuing operations rose to US$120.7mln from US$119mln a year earlier, ahead of expectations of sales of US$115mln.

Direct sales rose 7.7% from a year earlier to US$83.8mln but the bricks-and-mortar side of the business saw sales decline 10.3% to U$$36.9mln.

Like-for-like sales, including online sales, fell 15.0%.

Nevertheless, shares were up by one-fifth in pre-market trading after chief executive officer Robert Wallstrom said the company remains confident of the success of its long-term strategic plan.

For the current quarter, the accessories firm said it expects revenue of between US$120mln to US$123mln, which even at the bottom of the range is ahead of current market forecasts of US$117.2mln.

EPS guidance for the current quarter has been upped to a range of 19-21 cents, versus market expectations of 15 cents.

The company expects full-year EPS will fall between 72 and 78 cents on revenue of between US$487mln to US$495mln.

Chico's FAS tops expectations; bins Boston Proper brand Struggling womenswear retailer Chico's FAS (NYSE:CHS) topped expectations with second quarter results, and continued with its cost-cutting plans.

The three months to 1 August saw the top line rise 1.4% to US$680.4mln from a year earlier, and although that was boosted by a net increase of 23 stores in the company's retail estate, it was ahead of analysts' forecasts of US$674mln.

Underlying earnings, adjusted for one-off items, rose to 25 cents a share from 20 cents a year ago, and beat analysts' forecasts of 22 cents a share.

Post-tax profit slumped to US$2.1mln from US$30.1mln, but investors were encouraged by a 0.5% year-on-year increase in like-for-like sales, which exclude stores opened or closed in the preceding 12 months.

The company said it would sell its Boston Proper direct-to-consumer business and close the 20 stores operating under the Boston Proper fascia.

Including the latest update, Chico's has only beaten analysts' estimates of revenue and earnings twice in the last nine quarterly updates.

Shares were up 4.1% at US$14.39 in lunchtime trading.
