AMI's objective is to become a leading supplier of private specialist hospitals across Africa offering quality in and outpatient services. This strategy is centred on capitalising on the continent's demand for quality international standard healthcare, particularly from the emerging middle classes, overseas business investors, governments and health insurers.
AMI is playing an important role in improving overall healthcare by providing a template for top quality, efficient and affordable hospital care. The Company's growth strategy is to develop new services in existing markets and expand through construction, acquisition or investment in private hospitals in new markets. Additional markets which may be targeted for expansion include Zambia, Uganda, Ghana and Nigeria.
The market leadership position of AMI can be achieved due to the management team's expertise in planning, construction, commissioning and management of private hospitals. The Directors have many years of experience working with and for companies operating in Africa and they will use their extensive business contacts and knowledge to grow the Company.
The Company currently has three operational private specialist hospitals in: Maputo, Mozambique; Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; and Harare, Zimbabwe.
AMI Hospital Maputo
The 35 bed AMI Hospital Maputo opened to patients in May 2010 and its current primary operations include inpatient and outpatient services, fully equipped operating theatres and a trauma centre. Since opening in 2010, the hospital has experienced robust trading with encouraging patient numbers and interest from local businesses.
The new facility, which opened to patients on 10 May 2010, has been well received by local residents, businesses, embassies and tourists during its first 15 months of operation and has demonstrated a constant growth in patient numbers.
The hospital specialises in medical and surgical disciplines, has 35 beds, a delivery room, haemodialysis unit, 24-hour Emergency centre, X-ray department, CT scan centre, 4D ultrasound, three ICU beds, two neonatal ICU beds and two theatres.

AMI Hospital Dar es Salaam
The AMI Hospital Dar es Salaam offers 30 high class beds including four ICU beds and two neonatal ICU incubators and a clinic vaccination centre and dedicated pharmacy for patients and local community. The hospital opened to patients in February 2009, and the board is currently focussed on strengthening its relationships with local insurance companies and medical providers through which to develop additional revenue streams.
Key areas of focus have been the identification of areas of potential growth within the facility as well as areas of risk that could potentially hinder the progress and sustainability of the hospital. A situation analysis was carried out in the beginning of 2011, following which management concluded that to improve the hospitals operating results, some strategic initiatives were required. In line with this new strategy, Management identified the hospital's pricing policy and the forging of trusting and sustainable relationships within the community and health insurers as being key areas. The management proceeded to rationalise the hospital's pricing tariffs, in order to make the hospital more competitive and attractive to the local Tanzanian market, increasing occupancy and theatre usage.

AMI Hospital Harare
The AMI Hospital Harare houses six deluxe two-bed shared rooms and two single-bed private rooms; two two-bed High Dependency Unit rooms; two resuscitation beds; a casualty unit with four beds and a single bed procedure room. This hospital brings international standard healthcare to Harare; an offering which is in high demand following serious underinvestment in medical services in recent years.
The Group's newest facility, the AMI Hospital Harare, opened to patients in March 2011, and has since achieved encouraging patient numbers and financial performance. The Harare facility has been graded by the Association of Health Funders of Zimbabwe as being the highest graded facility in Zimbabwe at Grade A - Premium, further testament to the extremely high quality service provided at African Medical's hospitals. The 18 bed surgical and medical facility consists of six two-bed wards and two private wards. All wards are en-suite with individual televisions and satellite decoders for patient comfort and entertainment. The High Care Unit comprises a two-bed High Care Ward, a two-bed Cardiac Care Unit Ward and neo-natal section with incubator and phototherapy unit.
There are three consulting rooms for general medicine, gynaecology and cardiac consultants supported by two state of the art operating theatres. The 24 hour Accident & Emergency Unit has a casualty doctor consultation room, a triage nurse area, procedure room, an observation area with four beds, and a two bed resuscitation facility served by separate entrances for both ambulances and ambulatory patients. Expansion plans are currently underway to extend the number of beds to 24 by establishing an additional two bed surgical case ward and a separate paediatric wing with two two-bed wards specifically for all paediatric medical and surgical cases.
