Ord River Resources (ASX: ORD) is a minerals exploration and development company with projects in copper, bauxite and gold.
ORD has identified undeveloped bauxite resources on the Bolaven Plateau, Southern Laos, potentially one of the world’s largest. Initial exploration indicates that the Laos bauxite deposits may have the potential to support an industry, as large as Western Australia’s Darling Ranges’ deposits which produce 14% of the world’s alumina.
Ord River Resources commences mapping program at Copper Flats
Ord River Resources (ASX: ORD) has reported that a twenty day detailed mapping program has commenced at its Copper Flats tenements in the East Kimberley Region, bordering Western Australia and the Northern Territory, where it is targeting a series of prospective copper anomalies.
Rangott Mineral Exploration's Rob Harley flew to the Copper Flats tenements on 27 June and he and his team are expected to carry out detailed mapping work.
Peter Shou, managing director said “after some delay caused by unexpected bad weather in May we have now finally commenced our detailed mapping program."
"a successful mapping will be most valuable to the overall exploration program. It will give us a valuable set of geological information and analysis to find targets for drilling. It will also assist greatly our discussions with potential partners for Copper Flats."
"We are working hard to finalise plans and contractors for the EM Survey program. We look forward to update our shareholders and the market on the mapping program in the near future,” Shou added.
The objectives of the geological mapping are:
- Map previously defined Mapping Areas 1, 2 & 3 at 1:10,000 with allowance made for mapping parts of these areas at 1:5000.
- GPS-controlled mapping is to be undertaken on enlargements of the map information registered at 1:25,000. Aerial photography will be rescanned at suitable resolution to allow enlargement to 1:5000 without pixilation.
- Map Jackhammer A, Jackhammer B, Jackhammer C, Jackhammer West, Ripper and possibly Old Workings prospects at 1:1000 are to provide better understanding of mineralisation controls and settings using existing drilling data and new surface mapping.
- Investigate vehicle access options to all areas for both geological mapping and MLEM
geophysical survey programmes.
The geology, structure and metamorphism at Copper Flats closely parallels the geology of the Michigan Copper belt. The Michigan Copper Belt produced in excess of 9 million tonnes of copper metal over approximately 160 years.
The geological mapping program is a critical building block of Ord's Copper Flats program and strategy. The information gathered will be valuable to the overall success of the exploration program.
