Shaw River Manganese (ASX: SRR), formerly Shaw River Resources, is a manganese company with a pipeline of manganese projects. Shaw River’s exploration is targeted at high-grade manganese deposits highlighted by the recent acquisition of the Otjozondu Manganese Project (Otjo) in Namibia.
First production from Otjo is expected in 2012. Projects at Baramine, Pilbara and Butre, Ghana are advancing with drill programs underway or completed.
Shaw River Resources commences large manganese drill program at Baramine Project
Perth-Australian manganese explorer Shaw River Resources (ASX: SRR) is to commence a much anticipated 6,000 metre manganese drill program at 70% owned Baramine Project, located 80km to the north west of the Woodie Woodie Manganese Mine in the Pilbara of WA.
The program will include 128 drillhoes, a total of 63 high priority manganese targets and trends identified by previous work programmes, including follow-up to previous drilling campaigns will be tested, where there were 61 significant intersections (>10% Mn over 2m in width) from only 120 holes drilled - with grades up to 38% Mn.
These earlier results highlighted the existence of mineralisation similar to that at the world-class Woodie Woodie manganese mining project, which is 80km south-west of Baramine.
The process of identifying the targets in the lead-up to the current drilling program has been overseen by Shaw River’s senior manganese consultant, Dr Joe Drake-Brockman, who spent eight years targeting manganese at Woodie Woodie.
Shaw River managing director Vincent Algar said first assay results were expected in August 2010.
“Shaw River is very excited to be recommencing drilling at Baramine, where we are targeting a significant
manganese discovery” Algar said.
“Baramine’s location and geology in the East Pilbara Manganese Province makes it ideal for high grade manganese exploration because it shares so many geological similarities with the Woodie Woodie deposits.”
The company is targetting Direct Shipping Ore (DSO) grade targets with potential for significant tonnages for beneficiation to high grade manganese product.
With the extensive drill program commencing, newsflow from results is expected to gain momentum for investors.
