Westgold Resources looks to extend high grade gold zone at Rover 1

Westgold Resources (ASX: WGR) has reported that the first hole (WGR1D048-1) of the keenly anticipated drilling program at the Rover 1 gold-copper deposit has returned excellent high-grade gold results, including further bonanza grade gold.

Rover 1 is located in the Northern Territory, 100km southwest of Tennant Creek and includes the Jupiter, Western and Southern zones.

The results confirm continuity and extends the high-grade (>10g/t Au) gold core of the Jupiter Zone.

The Jupiter high grade (>10g/t) gold zone extended with 12m @ 17.5g/t Au, 0.23% Cu from 538m, including 4m @ 48.3g/t Au, 0.08% Cu from 543m.

Additionally, new high grade copper (and lower grade gold) mineralisation has been intersected along the southern ironstone contact providing encouragement to new extensions.

Westgold said further drilling will be required to test this new copper mineralisation along this contact of 12m @ 1.15g/t Au, 2.01% Cu from 521m including 5m @ 2.6g/t Au, 3.07% Cu from 528m.

The high grade gold intersection occurs approximately 20m below and 30m east of previous high grade gold results within the main Jupiter Zone.

A further wedge hole WGR1D048-1A has been completed approximately 15m east of WRG1D048-1 and this also shows favourable stringer style veining and brecciation. Assay results remain pending.

The company said two additional holes (WGR1D020 and WGR1D020-1) located on section 359420E  have targeted extensions to the high grade (>10g/t) gold zone in the area between the Jupiter and Jupiter Extended mineralisation.

Andrew Beckwith, managing director, said encouraging zones of visible copper mineralisation and stringer style veining occur in both holes with results expected in the coming few weeks.
