Aurora Minerals identifies manganese at Capricorn Southeast Project

Aurora Minerals (ASX: ARM) has announced its field geologists have reported visual identification of massive, banded and shale-interbedded manganese from the first 18 drill holes at its 100% owned Capricorn Southeast Manganese Project located in central Western Australia.

Drilling has commenced in the Five Fingers-Joint Venture area using a track-mounted drill rig. Since drilling started on 12 April, 18 holes have been completed for a total of 882 metres.

All holes were drilled at 60 degree dip to the south. Samples were collected from each 1m drill interval, and will be sent to the laboratory in batches.

Massive manganese was visually identified in 8 initial drill holes. Manganese was identified inter-bedded in shale in all drill holes.

Assay results are expected to be reported in large groups. Samples are also being collected for beneficiation tests.

The initial program of up to 10,000m reverse circulation (RC) drilling is planned to test the first 30 prospects with a total of about 180 mostly wide-spaced angled RC holes.

These are to be located within a 30km strike of the main manganese-mineralised sedimentary sequences, the Upper Ullawarra Formation, in the East-Of-Road and Far East Areas.

The company said results are expected to provide a rough first guide to beneficiation characteristics. Diamond core drilling may be utilised at a later stage to extract solid core samples for a more reliable estimate of beneficiation characteristics.

Prospecting teams have also commenced mapping/sampling the extensive Laterite and Detrital targets which occur to the north and south of the outcropping Upper Ullawarra Formation ridges where most of the high-grade manganese samples have come from to date.

The company believes the laterite and detrital systems could host significant high-grade manganese deposits formed as a result of natural weathering and erosion of the manganese-rich Ullawarra Formation.
