IP Group’s (LON:IPO) American subsidiary has set up a pilot initiative with FedIMPACT, which is working on early stages technologies from the labs of the US Department of Energy.

The founders of FedIMPACT are described as having spent “many years in and around DOE Laboratories” and the group is looking at technologies including clean-tech, life science, communications and robotics.

The initial pilot involves the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

"It is extremely exciting to have this opportunity to establish the FedIMPACT partnership and work with these leading DOE Laboratories,” said Alan Aubrey, IP Group’s chief executive.

“We believe the long-term partnership model that IP Group has pioneered is a particularly good fit for these institutions and we look forward to working with them."

IP Group specialises in the commercialisation of scientific research and the funding of early-stage technologies.

The company’s US division has partnerships in place with Columbia University, Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania.
