Freelancer (ASX:FLN) has acquired SydStart, Australia’s largest technology start-up conference and community, and has also acquired its founder Pete Cooper as its regional director for Australasia.
Cooper will lead the company’s media, communications and business development in Australia and New Zealand.
He has previously held a number of senior and executive leadership roles in regional and global financial and technology companies and more recently founded SydStart.
Cooper was recently recognised by the technology community with the inaugural 'rocket contributor' award for his unique work developing the national start-up ecosystem.
SydStart was established in 2009 and is now Australia’s largest technology startup conference, expo and professional community including around 5,000 tech startup professionals, investors and ecosystem participants.
Freelancer has been a significant sponsor of SydStart since 2011 and will continue to host the community to further develop Australia’s technology market.
In September, the company released the Freelancer App 2.0 for Android devices after the successful launch of the first version in April 2014.
This allows Freelancers to not only explore the thousands of new projects posted daily, but also to communicate with their employers, bid on and accept available projects.
The company has also launched its Freemarket.com platform that will afford users and its own global user base of 13 million professionals at Freelancer.com and Warrior Forum the ability to post domain and website listings for free.
Users can also buy and sell domains and websites.
A key selling point is that users can post domain and website listings for free, be protected with secure transactions and enjoy the lowest industry-wide fees.
The company had $19.7 million in cash and deposits at call as at 30 September 2014.
