CentralNic (LON:CNIC), which earns revenue from the sale of Internet domain names, said the .website, .press and .host domains are now generally available.

Each of the generic top level domains (gTLDs) will be available from Radix Registry FZC, using the CentralNIC platform.

Until today’s launch, the domains – the bits after the final dot in a web address – have only been available to priority candidates, such as trademark owners.

CentralNic chief executive, Ben Crawford said: "Coming from Radix, one of the most experienced and best resourced companies in the new gTLD space, .website, .host and .press are domains already in demand.

"They already have the highest pre-launch profile among consumers of any TLD launched to date, and deep support among retailers globally. We expect to see excellent sales from them and from the other TLDs Radix will be launching."

The .website gTLD is being pitched as a true alternative to .com. It is open and available-to-all for the full range of possible uses.

The .press TLD will provide its users a platform to share opinions and disseminate information. The primary target market comprises journalists, bloggers, media professionals, news providers and book publishers.
