Africa no-frills airline fastjet (LON:FJET) carried almost a quarter more passengers on its routes in Tanzania in June compared to the previous month, despite only 12% more seats being available.
Some 53,400 passengers flew with the airline compared to 43,000 in May. The number of available seats rose 12% to 67,400 increasing the load factor, or passengers per flight, to 79% from 71%. On average, 91% of flights arrived on time said the airline.
Ed Winter, fastjet’s interim chairman and chief executive, said the 12% rise in capacity followed an 11% increase in May and was in line with plans nearly to double utilisation between the first and third quarters.
"I am particularly pleased that the number of flown passengers has increased by 24% compared with May, a great performance against a capacity increase of only 12%," he said.
"This, coupled with the 20% month-on-month increase in passengers announced for May, clearly demonstrates that we are continuing to stimulate the market and that fastjet's performance and reputation are valued by customers."
