British Gas boss Weston becomes latest executive to quit Centrica

Chris Weston, the managing director of Centrica-owned British Gas, is leaving to become the new chief executive of Aggreko (LON:AGK), with more big names expected to follow him out the door.

Weston however has a 12-month notice period and will therefore be staying at Centrica (LON:CNA) until his time is up or until a successor is found.

Reports have also surfaced that Centrica’s chief executive Sam Laidlaw is on the way out, with BP’s downstream boss Iain Conn touted as a likely successor.

Centrica is yet to find a replacement for finance director Nick Luff, who announced he was quitting the energy giant at the start of the year to join Reed Elsevier.

Interim CEO Angus Cockburn decided not to apply for the top job at Aggreko on a permanent basis and is to “seek fresh challenges” when Weston joins.

Carole Cran is to be appointed chief financial officer, having taken up the role on an interim basis since Cockburn took the reins from Rupert Soames, who left for the CEO job at embattled Serco (LON:SRP).

Chief executive Laidlaw said: “Chris has made an important contribution to Centrica over 11 years, leading a number of our businesses, in the UK and North America. We will be sorry to see him leave but recognise that Aggreko offers a great opportunity for him.”
