A mining industry expert has been appointed as chief operating officer (COO) at Condor Gold (LON:CNR) to further advance the flagship La India project.

Dave Crawford will take the project to pre-feasibility study and bankable feasibility, the mining company said.

Crawford has almost four decades' experience in the industry, most recently completing five years at Newmont Mining in Denver, Colorado as study director of major capital projects.

This involved valuing properties for possible acquisition, direction of evaluation teams, development of strategies for identification of prospective takeover targets.

Chairman and chief executive Mark Child said: "Dave Crawford has worked full time as a consultant for Condor Gold since 1st December 2013.

"I am delighted he has joined as chief operating officer, it is a big vote of confidence for the company."

He added: "Dave's experience strengthens the operating team as Condor transitions from a gold exploration company and aims to produce pre-feasibility studies and bankable feasibility studies on La India Project, which has the potential for being one of Nicaragua's largest producing gold mines."

La India contains a CIM compliant mineral resource of 18.4 million tonnes (Mt) at 3.9 grams per tonne (g/t) for 2.33 million ounces gold and 2.68 million ounces of silver at 6.2 g/t.
