Fusion IP’s Perlemax seals licence deal with AECOM

Perlemax, one of Fusion IP’s (LON:FIP) university spin-outs, has struck a licence agreement with US support services group AECOM in a deal that will see its micro bubble energy-saving technology developed in the municipal waste water market.

Fusion, which specialises in commercialising university research ideas, said waste water treatment accounts for 2% of the UK’s electricity consumption.

Fusion, which owns a 35% stake in the University of Sheffield spinout, also claimed Perlemax’s technology has the potential to deliver energy savings of between 20% and 40% to each plant where it is installed.

The micro bubble technology produces small bubbles using no additional energy, helping the transfer of oxygen to the waste water. It has been on trial at two sites in the UK.

“Perlemax is a business at an early stage of development, but is typical of the quality of the technologies emerging from our partner universities,” said Fusion’s chief executive David Baynes.

“Fusion IP is able to monitor and assist these new businesses in their early stages, making them ready for a larger investment at a later date.”

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
