Strategic Minerals (LON:SML) today revealed it has hired David Anderson as its new finance director.

The magnetite iron ore producer and explorer, which has stockpiles in New Mexico, USA as well as exploration projects in Australia, will welcome 49-year-old Anderson to the board of directors with immediate effect.

Executive chairman James Fyfe said he was delighted with the appointment.

“His [Anderson’s] professionalism, financial skills and experience significantly strengthen the management team in key areas as we implement the company's strategic development plan,” he said.

“We are encouraged by his belief in our business model and his commitment to playing an important part in what we are convinced will be an exciting future for the company.”

Anderson qualified as a chartered accountant with BDO LLP and stayed with the firm until 2009 after progressing to the role of Lead Partner, responsible for a 120-strong audit team.

After leaving BDO, he was appointed interim finance director of Hakkasan Limited, owner of two Michelin starred restaurants in London, before joining Crowe Clark Whitehill LLP as an Audit and Advisory Partner in November 2010.
