Discovery Metals (AIM:DME) (ASX/BSE:DML) has advised that copper Mineralisation at Petra in north-west Botswana now exceeds a strike length of 14 km based on new information via drilling, regional geochemistry and mapping.  Previously, the strike length was 1.4 kilometres.

The Petra Prospect is currently the smallest deposit at the Boseto Copper project with an Inferred Mineral Resource of 4.5 Mt @ 1.1% Cu at a cut off grade of 0.6% Cu. This mineral resource estimate is based on a Petra strike length of approximately 1.4 kilometres.

Recent Highlights

- Drilling – results for 39 new drill holes in Petra and the gap between Plutus and Petra have been received
- Drilling – two recently drilled step‐out exploration diamond holes located 1.7 and 3.4 kilometres along strike to the south‐west of the existing Petra Prospect intersected copper mineralisation over widths exceeding 10 metres
- Geochemistry – regional Exploration along strike from Petra has identified copper anomalism in soils extending 13.3 kilometres south‐west of the current limit of the Petra resource
- Mapping – well developed copper oxide mineralisation has been located near surface in a trench approximately 12.5 kilometres to the south‐west of the Petra resource
- The combined strike length of the Petra and Plutus Prospects now exceeds 24 strike kilometres
- The 20.4 Mt @ 1.5% Cu of the combined Petra and Plutus Mineral Resources occurs over 9 kilometres of the known 24 strike kilometres of mineralisation.

Significant assay results of the latest 39 infill drill holes from the Petra Prospect at the Company’s 100% owned Boseto Copper Project are as follows:

Significant assay results include:

- Hole PTDD348 5.5metres @ 1.7%Cu & 15.8 g/t Ag including 1.0metre @ 4.3%Cu & 17.0 g/t Ag and 1.5metres @ 2.3% Cu & 32.7g/t Ag
- Hole PTDD342 4.2metres @ 1.9%Cu & 13.9 g/t Ag including 2.2metres @ 2.9%Cu & 18.3 g/t Ag
- Hole PTDD324 6.0metres @ 1.8%Cu & 13.7g/t Ag including 1.0metres @ 5.0%Cu & 43.0 g/t Ag
- Hole PTDD321 4.0metres @ 1.9%Cu & 17.3 g/t Ag including 1.1metres @ 5.8%Cu & 47.0 g/t Ag
- Hole PTDD327 4.0metres @ 1.8%Cu & 21.0 g/t Ag
- Hole PTDD353 4.1metres @ 2.2%Cu & 18.5 g/t Ag including 1.1metres @ 5.8%Cu & 47.0 g/t Ag
- Hole PTDD322 11.0metres @ 1.5%Cu & 11.8 g/t Ag including 3.0metres @ 4.1%Cu & 38.7 g/t Ag

A new Petra resource model based on all drill results to date is anticipated for completion in April 2009.

This new model will for the first time include reporting on the silver contained in the Petra Inferred
Mineral Resource and it is also anticipated that the model will close the current 1,200 metre gap between the Plutus and Petra Resources to form a zone of continuous mineral resource extending for more than 10 kilometres in strike length.

As with all other prospects at the Boseto Copper Project, the Petra Inferred Mineral Resource remains open at depth.

Implications for Boseto Project

The continued exploration success and consistent results from infill drilling and potential extensions at the Petra Prospect indicate the Boseto Mineral Resource can grow materially in size and thereby provide Discovery Metals with increased scheduling flexibility in any future mining operations.

Discovery Metals’ Managing Director, Brad Sampson stated, “We are demonstrating an ability to generate more mineral resources over longer strike lengths, economically and quickly through exploration at Boseto. Any new mineral resources potentially allows the mining of areas with copper grades substantially higher than the average of the total mineral resource. “

“As we progress to the commencement of mining there is significant value in having access to low strip
ratio high grade feed for the concentrator in the early years of the operation,” he added
