Western Desert Resources rapidly accumulating resources at Roper Bar Iron Ore project
Iron ore developer Western Desert Resources (ASX: WDR) has announced an Inferred Mineral Resource of 14 million tonnes at 49% Fe at Area “F East” in the Roper Bar iron ore project in the Northern Territory.
The Roper Bar project is a JV between WDR and Japanese trading house Itochu, local subsidiary, IMEA Exploration and Development of Australia Pty Ltd.
The Inferred Mineral Resource contains a high grade zone of 7 million tonnes at 59% Fe, which is likely to be Direct Shipping Ore (DSO).
The resource estimate was carried out by AMC Consultants Pty Ltd who said "the project has considerable mining potential. The Area “F East” resource contains potential direct shipping ore (DSO) that is high in Fe and very low in contaminants. This mineralisation has significant strike extent and is close to surface."
AMC "considers the surrounding areas to be extremely prospective. WDR is rapidly accumulating resources which will further enhance economic potential through shared infrastructure and other costs. The close proximity of project areas further underscores economic potential."
The Mineral Resource contains low contaminants such as phosphorus and alumina.
The JORC Code compliant Inferred Mineral Resource consists of a high grade zone of oolitic hematitic ironstone surrounded by lower grade material, and contains 14 million tonnes @49.5%Fe, 22%SiO2, 3.2% Al2O3, and 0.01%P at a lower cutoff grade of 30% Fe.
