Westgold Resources Rover Copper prospect receives boost from Adelaide Resources success

company news image

Westgold Resources (ASX: WGR) believes copper mineralisation at its Rover 1 prospect in the Northern Territory will extend to its tenement boundary after Adelaide Resources (ASX: ADN) announced visible copper mineralisation in its first diamond drill hole immediately adjacent to Westgold’s Western Zone at Rover 1.

Adelaide Resources reported visible copper mineralisation over an approximate 46 metre downhole interval in a vertical diamond drill hole within metres of the Westgold tenement boundary.

Westgold considers the visual mineralisation to be encouraging and the significance of this visible copper mineralisation will be determined when assay results are reported by Adelaide Resources, said managing director Andrew Beckwith.

Westgold previously provided cross-section drill data indicating gold and copper mineralisation may exist up and down dip at Westgold’s newly defined Western Zone and possibly into the adjoining tenement owned by Adelaide Resources.

This visual intercept demonstrates copper mineralisation within the Western Zone will most likely extend to the tenement boundary as the drill hole is within close proximity to Westgold’s previously reported high grade copper and gold intercepts of 18m @ 2.6% Cu; 9m @ 2.7%Cu; 29m @ 3.6% Cu; 14m @ 5.3% Cu, 1.5g/t Au; 13m @ 2.2% Cu, 9.2g/t Au; 13m @3.7% Cu; 16m @ 2.2% Cu, 7.3g/t Au; 7m @ 4.1% Cu, 4.4g/t Au, 7m @ 185g/t Au; and16m @ 9.7g/t Au.

Overall, Rover 1 is clearly growing into a major mineralised system with three significant high grade gold and copper zones defined to date. The Western Zone is the most northern zone of mineralisation defined by Westgold within the 800m long and south dipping magnetic target.

Two other substantial high grade gold and copper zones have been established at the Jupiter Zone and Southern Zone located approximately 60m and 200m south of the tenement boundary respectively. An initial resource estimate for the Jupiter Zone is planned later this year.

Westgold is currently aggressively drilling with three rigs on the Rover Project. Two rigs are deployed at Rover 1 with the aim of extending the high grade mineralisation at both the Western Zone and the nearby Jupiter Extended Zone.
