Zenith Minerals (ASX: ZNC) is a Perth based company focused on the identification, exploration and development of base, industrial and precious metal deposits, principally in Australia.
Zenith Minerals has discovered significant magnetite iron at the Mount Alexander prospect and high grade manganese in the Earaheedy Basin, both in Western Australia. The company continues to explore for base and precious metals on its Conquistador/Snake Well and Cardinal's Projects.
Zenith Minerals owns 100% of all minerals at the Earaheedy and the Horse Spring projects, 100% of all minerals other than tungsten and molybdenum at Mount Alexander and has the right to earn up to 75% of the Conquistador and Cardinal's Projects from Giralia Resources NL.
On 11 March 2010, the company announced an Exploration Target at the Mount Alexander Prospect, within E08/1410, of 0.6 to 1.2 billion tonnes at between 25% and 35% iron.
Zinc Co Australia encouraged by iron ore exploration at West Pilbara
Zinc Co Australia Limited (ASX:ZNC) has announced positive initial results from the evaluation of the iron ore potential of the company’s 100% owned Mount Alexander Project in the West Pilbara region of Western Australia.
First pass iron ore exploration at Mount Alexander has identified a banded iron formation (BIF) which outcrops strongly as ridges up to 100 metres above the surrounding plains.
The ridges extend for 6.5 kilometres along strike and have outcrop widths up to 560 metres. A detailed aeromagnetic survey flown in 2007 clearly outlines the BIF. Flanking the ridges are scree blankets of BIF fragments with a total area of approximately 180 hectares.
Zinc Co Chairman Gary Comb said the initial results from Mount Alexander are very encouraging.
“We have clear indications of potential for very big tonnages,” he said.
“Rock chip assay results to date have been consistently good with high iron grades and low levels of penalty elements. The project is in an excellent location with regards to infrastructure. We are working flat out to define the economic potential of this project.”
The project is near the port of Onslow, 260 kilometres south west of Karratha and well located with respect to infrastructure. The North West Coastal Highway is 10 kilometres west of the project and the Dampier Bunbury gas pipeline passes to the west of the highway.
The aeromagnetic data also show that the BIF extends to the west for a further 3.3 kilometres under cover into a tenement owned by Zinc Co. Previously unmapped BIF outcrops indicate that cover is shallow in this western area.
Two hundred and sixty-five rock chip samples of BIF were collected during this initial assessment and have been assayed for the standard iron suite by Spectrolab, Geraldton.
