Bayfield Ventures hits 13.94 g/t gold over 3.0 metres at Burns Block

Wednesday, March 14, 2012 by Deborah Sterescu

Bayfield Ventures Corp. (CVE:BYV) (OTC:BYVVF) unveiled late Tuesday additional results from drilling at the eastern portion of its Burns Block gold-silver property in the Rainy Rivery district of northwestern Ontario.

The 80-acre property is situated just to the east and on strike to Rainy River Resources' (TSE:RR) multi-million ounce gold-silver deposit.

Bayfield said multi-gram gold and silver intercepts are being intercepted in the first-pass drilling of the east-central section of the Burns Block, constituting a new discovery zone.

Highlights include hole RR12-5, which returned 19.5 metres of 3.46 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 8.93 g/t silver, including 3.0 metres of 13.94 g/t gold and 16.70 g/t silver in the eastern discovery zone at Burns Block.

The assay results show that strong gold mineralization is present over an expanding area, both down-dip and along strike at the east Burns Block, the company said.

Hole RR12-5 is a 31 metre easterly step out from previously reported hole RR12-3, which returned 10.5 metres of 4.02 g/t gold equivalent, and was drilled to test the lateral extension of the new discovery area.

In total, 10 holes have been collared in the eastern high grade zone and Bayfield said it plans on drilling at least an additional 10,000 metres in this area, as gold grades are increasing to the east and down-plunge.

The gold and silver junior miner said it has been consistently intercepting greater than eight metre wide zones of multi-gram gold mineralization, using the geologic model developed on the western side of the Burns property.

On a per hole basis, "Bayfield is intercepting consistently strong gold mineralization in each drill hole, even more so than was seen in the early exploratory drilling of the western high grade zone," it said in a statement.

Also of note, the company added that the new eastern Burns area is more gold-rich with lesser silver grades than the western area.

The new high grade eastern zone also consists of large, prospective undrilled target areas, both up and down-plunge from the current drill-tested area.

The discovery area occurs in the eastward extension of the main shear zone, which has been drilled for over 3.5 kilometres of strike length to the west by Bayfield and Rainy River Resources and is host to the bulk of the gold resources in the district.

Bayfield Ventures has completed over 260 holes in its ongoing 100,000 metre drill program, with drilling concentrated on the flagship Burns Block project.

The Burns Block property can be accessed through numerous all-weather, secondary provincial highways and township roads, which lead off of paved provincial highways 11 and 71. The project therefore has good access to labour and equipment.
