Dow Jones closes 123 points higher, NASDAQ jumps 1.5%

The ASX will look to open higher when the market opens in a couple of hours, after U.S. bourses rallied overnight. Spot gold is steady at US$1730 an ounce.
The rally on Wall Street continues, with the major indices within sight of some major technical barriers.
The Dow Jones closed 123 points higher at 12,904 - and is therefore within less than one per cent of the 13,000 milestone.
Not to be outdone, the tech-laden NASDAQ jumped 44 points to 2960 - and is now a little over one per cent from the magical 3000 mark - a level not seen for well over a decade.
Commodities were generally flat, with spot gold little changed overnight at US$1730 an ounce.
