Enerji receives green light to begin construction of first waste heat recovery system
Wednesday, February 08, 2012 by Angela Kean
Enerji (ASX: ERJ) can now begin construction of the first of its waste heat recovery systems, including installation of Australia’s first Opcon Powerbox, in Carnarvon after receiving works approval from the Western Australian Department of Environment and Conservation.
The waste heat recovery system captures heat wasted as a by-product of industrial power generation.
Electricity is then generated using the Opcon Powerbox without fuel or creating emissions.
Enerji is aiming to be operationally cash flow positive from when the fourth Opcon Powerbox is installed and commissioned.
At electricity prices of around UD$170-200 per megawatt hour, Enerji could net revenues of around $1.4-1.7 million per annum from just one of the Opcon Powerbox’s.
The addition of an Opcon Powerbox will provide up to 700 kilowatts of fuel and emissions free power, generating up to 6,000 megawatt hours per annum.
The company has outlined a works program involving the installation and commissioning of nine Opcon Powerbox’s in 2012.
Enerjiʼs primary target is off-grid power stations that supply electricity to remote minesites. In Western Australia alone there are 300 operating mines.
Enerji previously advised that the first genset exhaust modifications would occur on 5 February.
The first modification has been rescheduled due to the works approval having to be advertised in Monday’s West Australian newspaper before being released, however this will not impact the project schedule.
