Vmoto reaches first scooter shipment to Malaysia milestone, eyes 20,000 vehicle bounty
Vmoto (ASX: VMT) has reached a major milestone in the company's history with the first shipments of its 120S Electric scooter to Malaysian electric vehicle company, Eclimo Sdn Bhd.
The first shipment is for just 72 units, with another 216 to leave later in the month, with additional shipments of 216 units to follow in coming months to fill the total 1,296 unit order.
Where this deal becomes very interesting for Vmoto and potentially revenue significant, is that Eclimo has already indicated to the market that it wants to sell more than 20,000 electric scooters as part of a program to advance the country’s clean energy strategy.
With this in mind, if Vmoto can secure more orders then the company is well placed to financially benefit from the Malaysian Government's plan to make its transport system one of the greenest in Asia.
Helping the potential of this deal, Eclimo has had substantial Government support with the project.
The vehicle
Known as CKD units, they consist of all components other than batteries and the electric motor, which will be supplied independently. Eclimo holds one of two local manufacturing licenses for the manufacture and distribution of electric scooters in Malaysia.
Malaysian law requires that products are predominantly assembled in the country using local labour and as such the scooters are shipped in CKD form and assembly is completed locally. Vmoto will send two technicians to Malaysia to assist with assembly of the first scooters.
The stator block for the scooters is provided by KLD Energy Technologies based in Austin Texas, U.S., the battery system for the scooters is provided by ETI Tech of Malaysia, and uses their state of the art electric system which has been integrated in the Vmoto scooter range over the past 18 months.
The 5000w motor employs patented technology that allows for extended range and battery life and higher top speeds and is considered extremely high performance in comparison to existing motors. The scooter will run on lithium batteries.
