Horizonte Minerals names ex-Aurelian Resources chairman non-exec

Brazil focused Horizonte Minerals (LON:HZM) has appointed Bill Fisher to the board as a non-executive director, calling his track record invaluable to the company.

Fisher was previously chief executive of Globestar Mining Corp, where he oversaw the development and finance of the Cerro de Maimon project, the Dominican Republic's first copper mine.

He has also served as chairman of Aurelian Resources and vice president of exploration at Boliden AB, a major European copper and zinc company. Aurelian was subsequently acquired by Kinross Gold Corp. for US$1.2 billion after the discovery of the Fruta del Norte gold deposit in Ecuador.

At Boliden, Fisher was responsible for thirty-five projects over nine countries.

"Bill brings a wealth of experience in developing projects through to production; he speaks Portuguese, and has worked extensively in Brazil being instrumental in the discovery of the Aripuanã base metal massive sulphide deposits," said chief executive of Horizonte Jeremy Martin.

This, combined with his nickel laterite experience, ideally places Fisher to support the company’s primary growth strategy as it develops the Araguaia nickel project in northern Brazil towards a pre-feasibility study, said Horizonte.

Just a fortnight ago, Horizonte told investors that it had made solid progress at Araguaia, where an upgraded resource was on track to be available early in the final quarter of the year.

The planned 2011 drilling programme has recently been expanded to 20,000 metres from the previous 8,000 metres.

Fisher currently holds directorships at PC Gold (TSE:PKL), Treasury Metals (TSE:TML), Gold Quest Mining Corp (CVE:GQC) and Karmin Exploation (CVE:KAR).
