Morning news summary: Carnival Corp, AstraZeneca, BHP Billiton, Salamander Energy

Carnival Corp (LON:CCL) has contracted with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri to construct a 141,000-ton cruise ship for its P&O Cruises brand scheduled to enter service in March 2015.

BHP Billiton (LON:BLT) said that the High Court of Australia has today decided in its favour in its dispute with the Australian Taxation Office over certain tax issues relating to BHP Billiton's former Hot Briquetted Iron project.

AstraZeneca (LON:AZN) announced that Health Canada has approved BRILINTA (ticagrelor tablets) for the secondary prevention of atherothrombotic events in patients with Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS).

Salamander Energy (LON:SMDR) has successfully completed a debt refinancing. The new facility is a US$325 million seven year senior and junior reserve based lending facility.

Aquarius Platinum (LON:AQP) said that the “significant benefits of the Booysendal South acquisition are becoming increasingly apparent, with preliminary indications that Everest can be extended and expanded with industry-leading capital efficiency”.

“As a result the Board has resolved to accelerate the feasibility studies and development in respect of the Booysendal project,” said chief executive Stuart Murray.

Botswana Diamonds (LON:BOD) has appointed Robert Bouquet as a non-executive director.

Firestone Diamonds (LON:FDI) said that following the commencement of production at Liqhobong in February 2011 and the completion of a number of modifications to the processing plant, Plant 1 is now operating at its rated capacity of 0.4 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).

Mediterranean Oil & Gas (LON:MOG) is in advanced discussions with a third party for the farm out of a 75 percent interest in Area 4. The company said it was hopeful that the seismic survey will identify further prospects in the area and make the drilling of an exploration well attractive.

Leni Gas & Oil (LON:LGO) has been informed by MOG that the participants in Malta Area 4 (Blocks 4, 5, 6, 7) in which LGO holds a 10% interest have been granted an 18 month extension to the first exploration period of the Area 4 Production Sharing Contract (PSC) by the Maltese Government.
