Morning news summary: Vodafone, BP, BG Group, BAE Systems, Premier Oil

Vodafone (LON:VOD) announced an agreement to sell its entire 44% shareholding in SFR to Vivendi for a cash consideration of €7.75 billion. Vodafone will also receive a final dividend from SFR of €200m (£176 million) on completion of the transaction.

BP (LON:BP) has agreed the sale of its wholly-owned subsidiary, ARCO Aluminum Inc., to a special purpose vehicle incorporated by a consortium of Japanese companies. ARCO Aluminum is a supplier of rolled aluminium sheet, used primarily in the production of beverage cans.

BG Group (LON:BG) announced its third Tanzanian gas discovery with the Chaza-1 well, located in Block 1 approximately 18 kilometres offshore southern Tanzania in a water depth of around 950 metres. The discovery is some 200 kilometres south of BG Group's Pweza and Chewa discoveries.

BAE Systems (LON:BA) has completed the acquisition of the outstanding equity of Fairchild Imaging, Inc. not already owned by the company.

Premier Oil (LON:PMO) has exercised its option o drill the East Fyne appraisal well in the UK Central North Sea under the Joint Venture and Earn-In Agreement with Antrim Energy. Under the terms of the agreement, Premier will have a 39.9 percent operated interest in Block 21/28a containing the Fyne field in return for carry of up to US$50 million towards the development costs, including the East Fyne appraisal well.

Pan African Resources (LON:PAF) has been awarded a mining licence on its Manica exploration project by the Mozambican government. The licence, which was converted from a prospecting licence, grants Pan African the opportunity to move the Manica project to development stage.

Ariana Resources (LON:AAU) announced that Wardrop has finalised a JORC compliant resource estimate and scoping study report for the Kiziltepe sector of its Red Rabbit joint venture. Combined resource in preliminary optimised pits is approximately 1 million tonnes at an average grade of 3.6 g/t gold and 41.6 g/t silver. Output is expected at a rate of 150,000 tonnes ore per annum, corresponding to an average production of approximately 20,000 oz/year of gold equivalent, over a mine life of 6.9 years.

Forte Energy (LON:FTE) has received additional assay results from the final two RC holes drilled at the A238 uranium prospect, Mauritania. Significant intersections from the reverse circulation holes included 9 metres at 271 parts per million (ppm) uranium and 6 metres at 300 ppm uranium. Intersections from the diamond drill holes included 48 metres at 311 ppm, 24 metres at 457 ppm and 31 metres at 413 ppm.

Ormonde Mining (LON:ORM) reported that its wholly owned subsidiary Saloro SLU has acquired the 10% interest in the Barruecopardo Tungsten Project held by its joint venture partner SIEMCALSA, thereby consolidating a 100% interest in Barruecopardo.

Specialist Energy Group (LON:SEGR) announced its 2010 results today. Revenues climbed 5 percent to £38.5 million and after tax profits jumped 23 percent to £2 million.

Gulfsands Petroleum (LON:GPX) announced its 2010 results today. Revenues soared 37 percent to US$115.6 million and after tax profits rose 58 percent to US$44.7 million.

Petroceltic International (LON:PCI) released its 2010 results today, calling 2010 a year of “solid progress despite challenging circumstances. The company raised US$120.5 million in April last year to fund the 2010 work programmes in Algeria and Italy, and to provide financial flexibility going forward into 2011.

Strategic Natural Resources (LON:SNRP) has signed an exclusive coal off-take agreement with Trasteel International SA, a global steel supplier and commodity trader. The finalisation of the contract is the result of many discussions with various parties introduced to SNR by their appointed coal brokers, London Commodity Brokers.
