Desire Petroleum (LON:DES) has appointed its exploration manager Ken Black as exploration director just a day after spudding a new well on the Ninky prospect in the North Falkland basin.
Black has previously worked at BNOC/Britoil, Clyde Petroleum and Production Geoscience Limited. He was later appointed a director of Senergy Holdings Limited following the merger with PGL in 2007.
In October 2010 he was appointed Exploration Manager for Desire having previously worked on the licences for a number of years through Senergy/PGL.
“I am delighted that a professional of Ken Black's stature has joined the Desire Board. The appointment underlines Desire's belief in, and commitment to, exploration in the North Falkland Basin.
“He brings a wealth of Falkland oil experience to the Board,” said chairman of Desire Petroleum Stephen Phipps.
Desire has a 92.5 percent stake in the Ninky prospect and Rockhopper Exploration (LON:RKH) has the other 7.5 percent.
Interest in the Falklands oil frontier was reignited by Rockhopper’s successful Sea Lion appraisal well, which increased the company’s confidence in the commerciality of the Sea Lion field.
The latest Sea Lion well discovered a significant column of oil earlier this month.
