Ingredients and extraction firm Arev Brands International Ltd (CSE:AREV) says it's reached a major milestone - discovering an extraction approach which could be a game-changer in the drinks and cannabis space.

The research was carried out with development partner Alternative Extracts Inc.

"The company through its proprietary extraction methods has discovered an efficient way to infuse aqueous solutions with oil-based extracts that include some flavonoids and terpenes," it said.

"These extracts were infused in non-alcoholic beer, ciders, wine, spritzers, fruit juices and maple water."

The materials used included hops, frankincense, myrrh, pepper, lemon balm and Tea Tree oil.

"We are ecstatic about this discovery and how the purity and quality of the extracts from the extraction system are performing. It is potentially a game changer for those incumbents in the cannabis and beverage space," said the chairman of AREV, Mike Withrow.

"AREV's extractors produce the highest quality products, including terpenes," added Dr Adrian Wade, chief science officer at Alternative Extracts.

"Terpenes provide distinctive aromas in plants and play an important role in an increasing number of health food products.

"The ability to readily infuse pure, naturally sourced terpenes into beverages provides the consumer with aromas that are closest to nature."

AREV added today that it was inviting any Health Canada licensed producer or beverage manufacturers to contact the company for further discussions on this breakthrough that will dramatically reduce their product development cycle.

Arev also revealed it had settled C$150,000 in debt with Alternative Extracts Inc by issuing 500,000 shares at C$0.30 a pop.

It has been a productive week for the group. On Monday, it said that Patrick Cote, former mixed martial arts (MMA) athlete, had become an official brand ambassador.

He retired from the sport last year after a successful career of 15 years and now owns and operates his own multipurpose gym in Montreal, is an agent for coming MMA fighters and is also the French-language colour commentator for all UFC events.

Shares in Toronto advanced nearly 7% to C$0.32.
