In just the second drill hole at the highly prospective East Sontang project in West Sumatra, Sumatra Copper & Gold (ASX: SUM) has hit a near surface rich polymetallic vein including; 2.65 metres at 3.33g/t gold, 67.3g/t silver, 0.09% copper, 0.24% lead 7.30% zinc from 67 metres.
The third hole drilled 30 metres along strike intersected; 5.3 metres at 3.54g/t gold, 124.1g/t silver, 0.14% copper, 0.38% lead and 12.00% zinc.
This is less than three weeks after the first hole at the prospect intersected; 2.75 metres at 3.59g/t gold, 99.7 g/t silver, 0.14% copper, 0.35% lead and 9.39% zinc.
Jocelyn Waller, managing director, “That the first 5 holes drilled at Sontang East have all returned significant precious and base metal values is an excellent start to our scout drilling campaign at this exciting prospect."
Sumatra said although the mineralisation apparently thins at depth, the results especially for gold and silver are consistent and commonly higher than the surface values.
Mineralisation is also strongly structurally controlled and can both pinch and swell depending on local fault control.
Sontang comprises the virgin discovery of a high-grade polymetallic manto made by the company’s geologists in 2007/8 which is now being drilled for the first time.
Sumatra holds rights for exploration over 297 square kilometres located in the regency of Pasaman in the province of West Sumatra, 160 kilometres north of Padang.
