Work is well underway in Armenia - production is expected to begin later this year

Lydian International Ltd. (TSE:LYD) announced Wednesday that it has hired Rodney Stuparyk as general manager of its Amulsar gold project in Armenia, effective immediately.

A 25-year mining-industry veteran, Stuparyk joins the gold-mine developer from Centerra Gold, where he most recently served as vice president of risk, compliance, and sustainable development at the Kumtor gold mine in Kyrgyzstan.

"We are pleased to welcome Rodney to our management team and look forward to working with him,” said Howard Stevenson, president and CEO of Lydian, in a statement. “He brings a depth of experience that will be instrumental in making Amulsar a world-class operation."

With the Amulsar project just getting underway, Lydian is one of only a few gold companies going into production in 2018.

Lydian expects Stuparyk to play a key role in directing Amulsar’s progress from construction to commissioning to operational readiness. He’s charged with achieving production, cost objectives, managing 700 employees and contractors, and maintaining safety and environmental compliance.

He will also be actively involved in stakeholder engagement and sustainability, the company said.

Once in production, Stuparyk will be responsible for overseeing all operational activities on the project, which is 100%-owned by Lydian.

Shares in Lydian ticked 3.61% higher to C$0.43.
