Dotz Nano Ltd (ASX:DTZ) is aiming to commercialise its graphene quantum dots (GQDs) for use as an anti-counterfeiting and brand protection solution for the automotive solvent market.

The company has set up a subsidiary to commercialise its unique patent pending technology for tagging liquids in the automobile solvent market, focusing on the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) market.

DEF is used as a consumable in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to lower nitrogen oxide (NOx) concentration in the exhaust emissions from diesel engines.

As countries worldwide adhere to the NOx 2010 Emission Standards of the U.S., more and more cases of non-certified and counterfeit DEF are occurring.

These counterfeited products can leave the legitimate DEF manufacturer exposed to expensive litigation in product liability lawsuits.

Using DEF that is not up to the specifications of ISO can result in problems with the components in the vehicle’s DEF tank, surface area of the catalytic converter and NOx sensor.

Utilising Dotz Nano’s GQD tagging technology, manufacturers can safeguard themselves not only by combating counterfeiters, but by protecting themselves from counterfeit product liability litigation.

It is worth noting that the global DEF market is expected to grow from US$9.95 billion in 2016 to US$22.80 billion by 2023.

Dotz Nano’s share price has more than doubled in the past three month and closed at $0.235 on Thursday.
