Taruga Gold Ltd (ASX:TAR) has lodged three lithium exploration tenement applications in the Balingup Greenstone belt, located in southwest Western Australia.
The tenements are located to the south of the Greenbushes Lithium Mine, one of the largest hard rock lithium mines in the world.
Importantly, the geological setting of the tenements is interpreted to be analogous to the setting of the Greenbushes mine.
Taruga has identified the region as highly prospective for lithium pegmatite bodies through the review of historic data and geological mapping done by the Geological Survey of Western Australia.
The tenement areas contain identified lithium exploration targets, including the historic tin-tantalum-lithium Yeraminup prospect.
A detailed exploration program of mapping and sampling is proposed for the tenement when granted.
Taruga is focused on targeting new projects in highly mineralised regions, and these new applications continue the transformation of Taruga into a lithium and cobalt explorer.
The company is also expected to continue with the due diligence review of its tin-tantalum-lithium project in the Democratic Republic of Congo, located in the Katanga tin belt.
