Thundelarra Exploration (ASX: THX) is an established Australian resources company primarily focused on uranium exploration and development in the Northern Territory.
The Company holds dominant tenement positions in the Pine Creek and the Ngalia Basin uranium provinces with a total area in excess of 6,000 sq km. Thundelarra has achieved significant exploration success on its Northern Territory properties, particularly in the Pine Creek region where several new uranium occurrences have been identified, including the Thunderball prospect where drilling has delivered a number of very high grade uranium intercepts.
The Company has a number of assets in addition to its Northern Territory interests, including; three highly prospective uranium projects in Western Australia and one in Queensland.
Thundelarra Exploration encouraged by uranium samples at Thunderball
Electrode microscope study of drill chip samples by Thundelarra Exploration (ASX: THX) from Reverse Circulation hole PCRC020 at the Thunderball Uranium Prospect identified the uranium minerals uraninite (UO2) and lermontivite (uraniumphosphate).
Investors may recall this hole returned a high grade intercept of 3 metres at 2,964 ppm U3O8 including 1 metre at 8,071 ppm U3O8 in January 2009.
The Thunderball prospect is located approximately 50 kilometres north-west of the township of Pine Creek is one of a number of exciting uranium prospects within the Pine Creek Joint venture project. This joint venture between Thundelarra and GBS Gold International Inc. covers approximately 2,500 square kilometres of the highly prospective Pine Creek Orogen.
The uraninite is present as fine, disseminated crystals (1 to 10 microns in size) within the rock matrix.
In June, diamond drill hole TPCDD006 intersected the Thunderball shear zone approximately 20 metres along strike to the north and 15 metres down dip from PCRC020 (ASX 10 June 2009). The diamond core exhibited strongly anomalous radioactivity with visible uraninite mineralisation present.
The SEM results together with the presence of visible uraninite in drill core indicate that uranium was deposited in the Thunderball shear zone through hydrothermal activity and is not the result of secondary enrichment. This confirms potential for uranium mineralisation to continue at depth and be extensively distributed throughout the host structure.
Thundelarra will conduct an extensive RC and diamond drilling program intended to test the full 900 metres of prospective strike at Thunderball, initially to a vertical depth of 100 to 150 metres, is expected to commence within two to three weeks pending receipt of all statutory approvals.
Thundelarra is a producer at the Copernicus Nickel Mine located in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia approximately 35 kilometres south of the Savannah Nickel Mine. The project is a joint venture between Thundelarra (40%) and Panoramic Resources Ltd (60%).
