Gold futures soar past US$1300 an ounce

Silver joined the rally, adding 1% to US$18.50 an ounce.

The U.S. Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged as expected overnight, and with uncertainty surrounding the U.S. election, the gold bugs lifted positions.

New York gold for December delivery settled up 1.6% at US$1308 an ounce.

SPDR Gold Shares reported its first inflow in just over a week on Tuesday.

SPDR is the world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund.
