Pilbara Minerals Ltd intersects wide zones of lithium at Pilgangoora

The project is located near Port Hedland in Western Australia.

Numerous wide, shallow intercepts of lithium (down-hole widths of 10-22 metres) were intersected in a single, large pegmatite in the Far East zone which extends over 1,000 metres.

The significant new intercepts at Far East include 27 metres at 1.73% lithium from 47 metres and 19 metres at 1.56% lithium from 75 metres.

Pilbara’s resource extension drilling at South End indicates that the pegmatite remains open to the south, with significant widths of high-grade mineralisation.

The results, which will assist with the waste dump design and final pit design, will be incorporated in an updated mineral resource estimate at the end of 2016.

Ken Brinsden, managing director, said the new phase of drilling was continuing to reinforce the sheer scale of the Pilgangoora pegmatite field, and the potential for further resource growth.

In August, Pilbara updated the proved and probable ore reserves at Pilgangoora to 69.8 million tonnes grading 1.26% lithium.

This is more than double the maiden ore reserve announced in the March 2016 pre-feasibility study.

Earlier this month, Pilbara further strengthened its dominant position in the Pilgangoora lithium district, after entering into a binding agreement to acquire Dakota Minerals Ltd’s (ASX:DKO) Lynas Find Lithium Project for $8 million.
