Resonance Health Ltd to study diabetic cardiomyopathy in young adults

The study, funded by National Health Service UK, aims to enrol 100 patients over an 18 month timeframe.

The objective of the study is to determine if diet and/or exercise can improve cardiovascular dysfunction in young adults (<40 years) diagnosed with diabetes.

Resonance Health is providing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners to measure fat for both the liver and pancreas to monitor how fat changes in response to diet and exercise.

A number of patients have now received their baseline MRI scans with measurements being taken using Resonance Health’s scanners.

This is expected to provide valuable data for validation of Resonance Health’s technologies and expand the market for its technologies.

There has been a rapid rise in obesity related type II diabetes, which affects an estimated 380 million people globally.

This has led to an increased prevalence of diabetic cardiomyopathy in younger people, a serious complication that is estimated to reduce life expectancy by around 15 years.

The completion of the study is anticipated in early 2018. Initial recruitment is progressing well with over 10 patients already enrolled in the study.

Resonance Health’s revenue for the year ended 30 June 2016 was $2.5 million, an increase of 4% from 2015.
