Orion Gold NL (ASX:ORN) has received significant results from an ongoing maiden drilling program at the historical Prieska Copper Mine zinc-copper project in South Africa.

The drilling is continuing to intersect wide zones of high grade zinc-copper mineralisation including 42 metres at 4.41% zinc, 2.36% copper, 0.42g/t gold and 14 g/t silver from 55 metres.

The work is currently underway to establish a maiden mineral resource estimate.

The Prieska project, over which Orion holds an option, is a key part of the company’s emerging mineral portfolio within the Areachap Belt in the Northern Cape of South Africa.

Prieska is recorded as one of the world’s 30 largest volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) base metal deposits.

The project has historically produced 430,000 tonnes of copper and 1 million tonnes of zinc from 46.8 million tonnes of sulphide ore milled.

Prieska covers unmined dip and strike extensions from historic underground mining, and mineralisation has been previously delineated by extensive drilling and geophysics.

The current drilling program is designed to confirm, in-fill and extend the historical drilling at the +105 Level Exploration Target, where Orion is targeting mineralisation that would be amenable to extraction via open pit.

Orion’s share price has doubled during the last six months and is trading at $0.022.
