Dakota Minerals Ltd (ASX:DKO) has received promising results from a metallurgical test work program carried out on the diamond drill core from the Lynas Find lithium project.

The program represents an important step in advancing the Lynas Find project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, which is progressing in tandem with Dakota’s European lithium strategy.

The beneficiation testwork produced a high grade spodumene product grading 6.56% lithium oxide (Li2O), equating to 90.6% Li2O recovery.

These results indicate that dense media separation (DMS) would be a viable processing route for the Lynas Find spodumene ore.

The testwork was conducted on two cores from a June 2016 diamond drilling program yielding 16.6 metres at 2.47% Li2O from 8.4 metres and 24.9 metres at 2.16% Li2O from 17.1 metres depth.

Last month, the company commenced a drill program at the Sepeda Lithium Project in northern Portugal, representing the first stage of Dakota’s European lithium strategy.

Many countries in Europe are leading the world in the uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) using lithium-ion batteries, with EVs totalling 22% of all new vehicles sold in Norway.

Portugal, as the leading lithium producer in Europe, is a high priority jurisdiction as battery producers will need lithium supply from nearby jurisdictions.

Dakota is cashed up with $14.1 million as at 30 June 2016 after completing a $12.3 million share placement in May 2016.
