Hawthorn Resources (ASX: HAW) has made further gold intersections that continue to indicate that an open pit may be developed on the Central Prospect at its Deep South Project in Western Australia.

Assays include 17 metres at 2.35 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 2 metres; 12 metres at 2.47g/t gold from 37 metres; and 3 metres at 8.13g/t gold from 81 metres.

Further intercepts of steep northerly plunging, high grade, gold shoots beneath this notional pit area, continue to enhance underground mining potential.

At the Coles Prospect in the Trouser Legs JV Project Area, six initial reverse circulation drill holes designed to extend, at depth and along strike, historic drill results have intersected broad zones of gold mineralisation.

These include 10 metres at 2.09g/t gold from 18 metres, 15 metres at 1.05g/t gold from 12 metres and 17 metres at 1.02g/t gold from 25 metres.

Results from both drilling programs continue to be assessed as both Deep South and Coles may be developed subsequent to proposed mining operations at Anglo Saxon in the Trouser Legs JV area.

Hawthorn has also completed a detailed aeromagnetic survey at the Yundamindera Project Area that is designed to identify targets of a similar nature to the mineralised Coffey Bore Prospect.

The company had $5.26 million in cash as of 31 December 2012.
