Astro Resources (ASX:ARO) has identified an exploration target of between 90 million tonnes and 130 million tonnes of heavy mineral sand at its Governor Broome project in Western Australia.
The target is likely to host a grade of between 4% and 6%.
The new target builds on the recently identified JORC inferred resource of 31 million tonnes at 4.5% heavy minerals.
The new exploration target is estimated across two new areas at the project, the larger area between the southern extension of the Governor Broome East Mineralisation and the Governor Broome South Resource and the smaller area identified within a gap existing in the drilling grid of the Governor Broome East deposit.
Heavy mineral speciation work indicates that the target mineralisation is likely to contain between 40% and 60% valuable heavy minerals.
The estimation of the main area was based upon results from a line of 22 holes drilled at the southern end of the Governor Broome South Deposit by Astro through the centre of the area and from drill results from a line of 25 holes drilled across the northwest end of the southern extension of the Governor Broome East Deposit.
The estimation of the smaller target area was based upon two lines of 80 metre spaced drill-holes immediately to the northwest and southeast of the area.
Astro Resources is initially developing the Governor Broome deposits, which forms part of its larger Scott Coastal Plain project.
The deposits are comparable to the successfully mined and rehabilitated Jangardup mineral sands deposit, 20 kilometres to the east by Cable Sands, now part of Cristal Group.
