Synchronica wins 50,000 license deal for Mobile Gateway in West Africa

Synchronica (AIM: SYNC) has received its seventh contract win in Africa for its mobile email product Mobile Gateway, with a purchase order from a West African mobile telephony service provider for a 50,000 user license, including hosting for a year.

"Our seventh client win in this region re-emphasises that Africa is a key emerging market for next-generation mobile messaging data services”, Synchronica chief executive Carsten Brinkschulte commented.

The West African provider is offering mobile services in collaboration with a 20 million subscriber mobile operator to a major religious community in the region with over 2 million members. Synchronica's Mobile Gateway will be offered to the community as part of a subscription providing push mail and mobile synchronisation services which can be used to exchange messages on religious topics.

“Operators are looking for new initiatives to retain customers and to drive growth in this market and they have seen that our products can be used to connect religious communities and enable one-to-many and one-to-one communication about religious news, teachings and other related topics”, Brinkschulte said.

"As many subscribers in the region do not have high-end Smartphones our Mobile Gateway product is perfectly suited to ensure that these services can be offered across the entire spectrum of handsets including low-cost, entry-level devices."

Broker FinnCap mentioned Synchronica in its 'Facts & Figures' report today, saying that hilst the value of this contract is not material, the contract illustrates increasing demand from social networks to communicate via the mobile device within the emerging markets where penetration of PC's and Smartphones is limited.

Synchronica develops industry-standard mobile push email and synchronization products. Its portfolio includes the flagship Mobile Gateway product and the device backup solution, Mobile Backup. Mobile operators in emerging and developed markets use Synchronica's white-labelled products to offer their consumer and business subscribers mobile email, PIM synchronization, and backup and restore services.

The company is gathering momentum and has started 2010 with a string of new deals, both for the flagship Mobile Gateway product and for its latest addition to its product range: the MessagePhone low-cost device which was officially launched in February.

The MessagePhone product marks a significant milestone for the company, as it is the first time its software is being bundled and pre-installed with mass-market mobile devices. The MessagePhones utilise the infrastructure provided by Mobile Gateway, building an end-to-end entry-level push email product.

Furthermore, with the recently announced acquisition of IMPS instant messaging business, Colibria AS, and a £4.8 million fundraising, it is now placed to offer a complete next-generation messaging service.

Synchronica intends to incorporate Colibria's IMPS technology into the Mobile Gateway product and pre-install it on the MessagePhone low-cost device. The acquisition includes a number of significant benefits including the transfer of 13 carrier contracts, of which two large carrier groups have an addressable market of more than 320 million subscribers. The deal also sees the transfer of Colibria's related reseller agreements with Nokia Siemens Networks and Acision.

The company also gains Colibria's Instant Messaging and Presence Service (IMPS), Colibria's Windows Live Messenger Gateway, Colibria's Social Network Gateway and its dedicated SaaS (Software as a Service) App Centre.
