Phosphate Australia acquires prospective manganese project in WA
Phosphate Australia (ASX: POZ) has acquired a 100% holding in the Earaheedy Basin manganese project in the mid-west of Western Australia, dealing itself into the manganese sector.
The project includes the Iroquois manganese prospect.
An airborne electromagnetic (AEM) survey has been completed over the Iroquois prospect to generate manganese targets for drilling early next year, with results anticipated in January 2011.
The project covers an area of 973km2 just north of Wiluna. Previous 1990’s drilling on the project included 6 metres @ 34.1% manganese dioxide and 4.2% lead from 34 metres in drill hole TRC4.
Yesterday, Vector Resources (ASX: VEC) reported on a maiden drill program at its Earaheedy Project JV, where regional mapping also confirmed manganese potential with surface samples to 37% Mn at the Blue Cliffs prospect.
Iroquois is highly prospective due to a large target area of the prospect (21km x 5km) and the high grades and thicknesses demonstrated in hole TRC 4. It has shallow depths of mineralisation and considerable potential for bedded manganese deposits to yield very large tonnages.
The acquisition gives Phosphate Australia dominant ground position specifically targeting the Yelma Formation of the Earaheedy Basin.
