Japan is stable and mining-friendly, matching Southern Arc's diversification strategy

Southern Arc Minerals (CVE:SA) (OTCQX:SOACF) expects to produce gold in Japan’s northern Hokkaido region, having  applied for 38 exploration licenses in the country in an area of known gold occurrences.

Further to a diversification strategy launched in December 2012, Southern Arc has been searching for resource exploration and investment opportunities in stable jurisdictions.

Japan’s Hishikari Mine is one of the world's highest grade gold mines, delivering grades averaging 40 g/t gold since 1985. Still the region is considered to be underexplored.

Based on historical gold production records and geological databases, Southern Arc has applied for exploration licenses through its newly formed Southern Arc Minerals Japan subsidiary, already lodging 38 contiguous exploration applications in northern Hokkaido targeting high-grade epithermal gold deposits.

"We are working closely with mining consultants and the Japanese regulators and look forward to commencing exploration once the licenses are granted," said Dr. Mike Andrews, President and Chief Operating Officer of Southern Arc.

Southern Arc has experience in identifying underexplored and overlooked prospects, lately focusing on areas "with a well-established regulatory framework and easy access to government officials”, said Southern Arc’s president and CEO, John Proust.

Japan is stable and mining-friendly, matching Southern Arc's diversification strategy.

As part of its new approach, Southern Arc sold its 90 percent stake in the Taliwang projeck, in Indonesia in July 2014.

The company since maintained a low level of activity, waiting for an opportunity in which to redirect its cash in stable regions as a way of building shareholder value more effectively.

Southern Arc also owns a stake in Eagle Hill Exploration, which is developing the Windfall Lake gold project in Quebec.
