Elemental Minerals completes maiden potash drilling in the Republic of Congo
Elemental Minerals (ASX: ELM) has completed its maiden drill hole EK-01 at the 93% owned Sintoukola Potash Project, 60km north of Pointe Noire in the Republic of Congo.
EK-01 was designed to twin the historic drill hole K-18, and to confirm the reported potash grades of 26.0% K2O over 3.9m from 280.08m and 23.6% K2O over 3.3m from 286m below surface from two close-spaced sylvinite horizons.
Elemental reported that EK-01 penetrated the entire evaporite sequence and was terminated in the top of the Coco Beach Formation at a depth of 609.35m.
Furthermore, the company said the drill hole also allows verification information on historically reported extensive carnallite development on the property.
Geological core logging confirms the presence of sylvinite mineralisation in the target depth interval, with sampling of the potash intersections in EK-01 have been completed, with core samples despatched to K-UTEC Salt Technologies, in Sonderhausen, Germany, for analysis.
The first assay results are expected within three weeks.
The next four holes to be drilled are designed to target the sylvinite mineralisation near the hanging-wall of the evaporite sequence.
Seismic surveys of the exploration area are due to commence within six weeks.
