Early statistics show over a 430% increase in user dwell time and over a 400% increase in daily active users of the Sweep app.

Importantly, 90% of users are engaging in Geochats, which is a unique new feature that allows users to unlock exclusive chats based on their location.

An 800% increase in private message usage has increased average messages sent per day per user to 11, which compares to Snapchat’s comparative stat of 4-5 in September 2016.

Preliminary rollout of Geochats has commenced with 14 venues in Sydney, three in Melbourne and one on the Gold Coast for Schoolies the following week.

Sweep is one of only two authorised external apps being promoted at the Schoolies event.

The roll-out of three key features

Thred plans to release three key features for its recently launched Sweep app beginning with Phase 1 Geochats.

Phase 1 Geochats has commenced with testing and trials being conducted over the next two to three months.

During this period, data feedback and user testing will drive the product enhancements.

Notwithstanding the trial nature of this phase, revenue will be generated by several venues as the business offerings expand.

Phase 2 is called Augmented Reality (AR) Discovery and Phase 3 is is called AR Content Creation.

Phase 2 AR Discovery will allow Sweep users to discover augmented reality content generated by Sweep.

Phase 3 AR Content Creation will allow Sweep app users to create their own media content such as photos and reviews and post it in Sweep for other users to discover.

AR refers to when a user is looking through a smartphone's camera and what they see has been ‘augmented’ – meaning something has been digitally added or changed. 

Agent Reality

Thred plans to use its enterprise business, Agent Reality, to deliver near-term revenues alongside the Sweep app.

Thred has commenced and is quickly progressing the business development process for Agent Reality, with continuous discussions with prospective clients.

From discussions, it is clear that interest and demand for augmented reality applications in the enterprise area in marketing, consumer engagement and retention, is very strong and growing.

To enhance the company’s capabilities, an experienced business development executive has been appointed to lead and drive the Agent Reality revenue plans.

What is the Sweep app?

Thred is initially promoting its Geochats features to locations that are frequented by its target demographic; clubs, bars, sporting events, music festivals, universities etc.

Monetising Sweep

It is important to point out that the venue or location hosting the Geochats can also join and moderate the conversations.

This means that they can communicate offers, promotions, announcements and emergencies to all Sweep users in the geo-located venue.

Sweep has plans to monetise this service for venues according to the size and nature of the venue or location.

This is strongly synergetic for both the venue host and Sweep app user.

Users receive localised and contextually relevant messages from the venue and the venue host now has an engaging chat forum to provide offers, promotions and announcements.

Thred is receiving strong buy-in to this value proposition from venues and users alike.

Many other opportunities for geo-locked chats exist in the enterprise sector that Thred is exploring - hospitals, schools, sporting venues, airports, shopping malls, public transport et al.

Testing and trial phase

The team at Thred has already recruited several trial sites in Sydney and on the Gold Coast to help launch and test the first trial phase of Geochats.

Following these initial trials, a second round of trials will be conducted to refine the user experience, all the while broadening the number of locations Geochats will be available in.

The sites in the trials phase will be updated on the Sweep website to allow users to participate and keep shareholders informed of progress.

The new Sweep app will be an evolution of the existing Thred app and not a separate app.

Thred is a free social app which brings together all of a user’s contacts in one simple place.

The app uniquely centralises messaging, mail and more, into one simple ‘thred’.

Since the app’s May 2017 launch, it has achieved over 15,000 downloads and is on target to meet its end of November download target of 18,000.

What is Sweep?

Sweep is an evolution of the Thred app.

Sweep uses geo-location, messaging and augmented reality (AR) to engage users and deliver contextually relevant content.

In this context, geolocation refers to a user's smartphone being able to access its geographic location.

AR refers to when a user is looking through a smartphone's camera and what they see has been ‘augmented’ – meaning something has been digitally added or changed.  

Geolocation and AR are the two primary mechanisms of the Sweep app.

Each provides a new way for brands, businesses and users to engage and create.

An example of geolocation and AR being used together

The Pokémon GO game played on smartphones is a good example of geolocated augmented reality.

Users walk around in the real world as the game requires your geographic location (geolocation).

A user may be walking through a park looking through their smartphone’s camera and find a Pokémon in the park (augmented reality).

Sweep to have new features

The rebrand from Thred to Sweep will include the release of geo-locked chats as the first new features.

The nature of geo-locked chats at its launch will require event and venue specific partners to promote the Sweep app for free, as it facilitates a unique and exciting communications portal for the recruited venue.

Commercialising geo-locked chats

Once initial trials have successfully concluded and in support of its commercial model, Thred expects fixed and variable fees from these venue and event specific activations.

The Sweep team has established several test locations in Sydney which include Surry Hills, Newtown and Darlinghurst as well as selected venues on the Gold Coast.

Following this, Sweep will employ an evidence-based method to deliver the rollout of geo-locked chats in a way that will yield the greatest uptake of users.

Sweep will then use crowd-sourced suggested locations, generated from users and data on venues.
